We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Abby Ekah. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Abby below.
Alright, Abby thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
An idea in my head that became reality. Indeed, a story tell. It took me awhile to take the leap of faith, however I’m grateful that I did. I first got the idea of Ekquisite in March of 2020. I spent the next couple of months learning everything I thought I needed to know. I was fortunate enough to have support from a friend in Liberia who helped take the idea I had in my head and turn it into a product. We connected with young talents who were passionate about sewing. I didn’t officially launch till September. From March to September there was a lot that took place. I worked with various graphic designers creating a logo, websites and banners. I met different tailors who created new designs and products. Initially, I underestimated the amount of work that needed to be done and was also very nervous about sharing something I created with the world. From behind the scenes I learned about shipping, websites, local business regulations, and a lot of other important lessons. Looking back I would have told myself, you’ll never know it all and just believe in yourself. Even now, I’m still learning and growing through this process.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Ekquisite; the beauty of Africa. A brand for everyone with the goal of incorporating the beauty of African prints into our modern culture. Our products range from accessories to high end fashion pieces. We’ve gotten to where we are today through years of dedication and lessons.
Can you talk to us about manufacturing? How’d you figure it all out? We’d love to hear the story.
All of our products are manufactured in various countries in West Africa. Our goal has been to create opportunities for women who are passionate about fashion within Africa. I was fortunate enough to visit Accra, Ghana and Monrovia, Liberia to meet some of the wonderful talents we work with. Through the years we’ve created valuable relationships while creating pieces that display the beauty of Africa’s versatile prints and cloths.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
Keeping in touch with our clients and creating brand loyalty is important to us. We encourage all customers to subscribe to our mailing list and be apart of the exclusive dolls who receive updates of sales, new arrivals, and all things Ekquisite. We also keep in touch with clients through our various social media platforms.
