We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brittney Jackson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brittney below.
Brittney, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Please tell us about starting your own firm and if you’d do anything different knowing what you know now.
Hi there, thank you for the opportunity! It is a pleasure to speak with you and share my experience and insight. Honestly, there is A LOT that I would do differently knowing what I know now, but that is all about starting a business, and growing. For me, it is important to continue to grow and get 1% better everyday and that means being open to constant feedback and growth. When I started my own real estate business years ago, I was clueless what it meant to be a business owner. I was doing the actions that I needed to that were important to my customers and clients, and that were essential for the IRS that I knew, but there is so much office management, administrative work that goes behind the scenes that I was blinded by. Had I known about all of that, and how critical it is to do that ahead of time, I would have hired my admin then viruses this past year. It took me years of being in the business and feeling overwhelmed to wear every hat to realize the good old saying “you need to spend money to make money.” I take it to heart fully now, not only with my marketing efforts within my branding but also within the people I do business with on my team, the coaches that I use, and the way I sell on behalf of my clients.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Absolutely, I am Brittney Jackson. I have been a Realtor since 2015 where I started in new construction sales and progressed to develop my own business as an individual agent. During that time, I took a few months off to get my origination license and practice lending to understand that perspective, to better help my clients when I ran full force as an individual agent. Since then, I have been awarded and recognized for a variety of accomplishments and featured in a number of magazines. Most recently, I was published in Haven Magazine for a successful sale story that I was nominated for in October 2023 this fall. Early this year, I moved brokerages to eXp Realty where I started a team and expanded New Doors. New Beginnings.
I am very passionate about helping my community, and if I’m not in a client meeting during the day, I’m normally volunteering my time on one committee or another to help STMA. My business plan and my life plan interconnect with this, and so I focus a lot of my efforts on giving back. I want my children, my boys, to understand that it is important to spread kindness and give back to those in need and your community as a whole. I have been on the board of our local Rotary club for a couple of years, member of our local ShopSTMA, I am one of 8 who donate their time to create Winterfest at Town Center Park every year (we just finished year #3), I sponsor school events, school sports teams, and local charities/fundraisers wherever I can. I am President of a networking grou: Knightly Resources where we focus on the same, local business owners who want to give back to the local community and organically collaborate together. I also help with Family Night in the Park every summer on Wednesday nights and help organize the bands that perform for Rotary, really, the opportunities are endless when you just start getting involved- and that’s the beautiful thing! With all of that aside, I am a mother of two wonderful boys that I am beyond grateful for, and married to my high school sweetheart. We are a very active family and love sports, the outdoors (especially fishing), and hiking. Really, exploring the great Minnesota is a lot of fun for us and we enjoy doing it together- especially when we can bring our dogs too!

Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
At the end of the day, I think it is about showing up for your clients, providing transparency to your clients, and being there for them. This is the biggest investment that they are going to make when it comes to buying or selling real estate, and they want YOU to be their partner in the process. They don’t necessarily need a best friend. They want a professional that is going to walk them through what they need to know and be there for them. So often I hear people say that they had a realtor who didn’t review documents with them, or they didn’t know that they needed to do “xyz.” I think it is important to be as thorough as I can, to ask the right questions, and to LISTEN to what my clients are saying to me. It’s not always about providing them every bit of information that I know but providing them with the information that is specific to their needs and finding the solutions that best suits them by strategically planning and advising them. Then, of course, after the transaction is over, I think so often people tend to find the next deal that they tend to forget about their past clients. I try to still keep in touch with my past clients without seeming over the top. I want to respect that the process has been completed and they want their space; however, still touch base from time to time. For me, that’s my brand and how I build brand loyalty for each client. Everyone is going to be different for what that means to them and how they want to follow up. I do mine on a quarterly basis to annual basis. The biggest thing is that you don’t forget about them, and you don’t let them forget about you however you want that follow up to be, let it be rememberable and with your name on it.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Yes, absolutely. I have read a variety of books that have helped me over the years. Ultimately, I think it comes down to how the book speaks to you at the time and what you are looking for with your specific business planning or life planning. So often, we find that our lives are separated between personal lives and professional lives, and I try to realize that they are interconnected. I try to focus my readings based off of that and find ways to continue to build professionally and personally on what I need to hear for self-discovery and growth for my clients, family, self to continue to move forward and become 1% better daily. With that being said, my most recent favorite is Loving What is by Byron Katie.
