We recently connected with Malachi Baa and have shared our conversation below.
Malachi, appreciate you joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I learned through Poetry, and through my big cousin. Watching my cousin rap is how learned how to turn Poetry into music and also how I learned how to tell my story through my music. If I was to stay focus and not let others fear of failure get to me I feel like I probably would’ve been where I am now sooner. But I believe in Gods timing and that it was his will in me for me to make it the way I have. The most essential skill(s) that was the most important coming up in Music is Confidence and Communication. The confidence you need to have in yourself to pursue this dream is very important. It takes a lot of confidence to put your story to a beat and have faith that someone somewhere would understand you and finally hear you. Being completely honest the obstacle that stood in the way of learning more for me was myself. I was so fearful especially after hearing about so many people not making it in the industry that it caused me to kind of slow down and “Stunt” my growth in music.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
For those who haven’t read my first article my name is “PushNYC” a.k.a “The Big Kahuna” the creator of PushMobEnt and PushNYCTV. I am a Artist from Brooklyn NY. I’ve been rapping since the 4th grade and have been dropping music On mainstream platforms since 2020. I started originally making music with my friends in Willingboro NJ and releasing songs on SoundCloud. After taking few years to gather myself and trying to reflect on my self as an individual, I decided to get back in the studio in 2020 while we were on lockdown and work on my first album “ B.ad A.ss A.frican “ which FLOPPED, But I stayed determined. Around 2021 I started working on my next project “Mobcity Chapter 1 : Blacksheep” where I finally found who I was and found a sound that worked out well for me but once again it still FLOPPED. I was very depressed after seeing alot of my good work just flush down the drain, however I continued to pursue my dream. 2022 I released a few singles and used my instagram @TherealpushNYC to promote alot of my unreleased music and the 3 singles I had released. The beginning of 2023 is when I finally take off. I dropped “Kahuna Season” which is kind of what helped me create the lane I am in today. I put my blood sweat and tears into that project but because of the pass few projects flopping I thought it was going to just going to be another project that just went over everyone’s head BUT IT WASN’T. I went from 100 views in a year to 3,000 views in a month. Now I’m working on “Kahuna Season 2: Head of the Table” which I believe is the best album I could’ve ever made!! Features from Artist like Brotha Ash/ RockstarReeky and Much More.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
In my view I believe society could do alot to support up and coming Artist. A lot of us get overlooked by our community because we aren’t at the same level as the Artists whose already “Made it” but if society gave us a chance they would see alot of us are better than some of the artist we here on the ready everyday. From Artist like RockstarReeky, Quonie Millz, PushNYC,Dolo Diligent, NLF Firm. Na’Re, FlowSpitta, and many many more..

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My Mission in my Journey is to make my Family proud. To leave my family with a legacy that the generations to come can make a living off of. I want my Niece(s) and Nephew(s) to grow up and be able to see that anything is possible long as you put your all in to it.
