We recently connected with Sierra Alston and have shared our conversation below.
Sierra, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
The name of my company actually has a personal meaning because Arreis is Sierra spelled backwards. It also means “Beautiful person inside and out”
Sierra, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I consider myself a very tenacious woman that never backs down from a fight and never gives up. I also consider myself humble and strive to be an asset to anyone I encounter. I did not choose construction, nor did I dream of this career however, construction chose me. I have worked in various industries, but I never felt fulfilled. I begin as a project manager for a developer, so I was always involved in the inception of a project and the delegation side of things. I also dabbled in real estate but never felt I was doing enough. I was always exposed to the breaking ground process of a project and fell in love with the civil phase. I took a leap and wanted to change the industry by starting a woman owned civil construction firm. I learned everything that entailed the horizontal phase of a project. I believe I solve the problem of enhancing the communities we serve and employing men which are the providers of households.
I am most proud of the lessons I have learned along the way because I owned them and kept pushing forward. I had a dream and a vision and made it into existence. I provide jobs and I am passionate about contributing to the advancement of the community around us. At Arreis we are not limited, we are able to tackle all preliminary phases of a project.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
I am very involved with the initiation of a project. At Arreis we appreciates the importance of client relationships. Understanding a project is only as successful as the partnerships you create with clients along the way; our team puts a priority on ensuring not only maintaining communication every step of the way, providing well-done projects, but on successful, long lasting relationships.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
Human Capital is very difficult to manage. Choosing the right people is extremely critical to getting the job done right… the first time. Once you obtain the right individuals assure, they feel appreciated for their hard work. Never lose touch with those that are doing the work to keep the business going. Have processes and procedures in place to manage a team and maintain communication amongst your team. Award the hard workers and those that do their job well.
