We recently connected with Carlos Warda and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Carlos, thanks for joining us today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
At Sabor, we strive for the freshest and highest quality ingredients. When times are tough, we do not care what the price may be, we will never sacrifice the high quality meats and fresh produce that we use. We hope that our legacy is that we never sacrificed flavor, quality and the freshness of our food during these tough times. Aside from this, we hope people remember the warmth and comfort of our service. Sabor strives to make people feel at home during catering events and we hope that our wonderful clients remember the homey feeling and the savory Al Pastor, Carne Asada and handmade tortillas!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Sabor Mexican Grill was established in 2006 in Lemon Grove, CA. The owners, Sonia and Carlos Warda strived to deliver high quality traditional and street Mexican food since then. Carlos has had years of culinary experience learning to cook in Italy, Chinese restaurants, BBQ and more! Although our storefront is closed at the moment, we are still catering and delivering our tasty food. We are super proud to have survived the housing crisis of 2008 and 2020 pandemic, unlike other small businesses who were less unfortunate. I believe what sets us apart is that we are a family business who like to treat their amazing clients as such, our savory and high quality of food, and our passion for cooking. When you are doing what you love, success will come your way.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
We advice to always show support and treat your employees like family. Even if an employee is not performing a task in the way we need it, we strive to teach not to criticize.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Although we do have several social media pages and followers, that is not what got us so much business and clientele. Before most people relied on social media as much, it was word of mouth from our happy customers. We have had tons of customers mention to us how they heard from a friend or family member how amazing and quality our food is and have hired us for that reason. I believe when something is great, it doesn’t need a huge spotlight, just enough people who love it. That’s where true success comes from for us!
