Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Faith Woods. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Faith thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
I abide by the phrase, “People remember how they are made to feel.” Taking the time to pause and savor the joy of others is something so fleeting in the modern day. When I host people or teach workshops, I try to create a memory that is simply unmatched. It is worth it to be in the moment and stay a little longer. My life’s work is a legacy of goodwill.
Faith, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Faith Woods, and I am the owner of Faith Woods Events.
I am a native of Leighton, Alabama and currently reside in Huntsville, Alabama with my husband, Billy and our two Goldendoodles, Stevie and Waylon. Growing up, I had a desire to be an entrepreneur, but it was a career path I was unsure how to pursue. I believed for many years it would be a second act, perhaps I would take one consistent career path, then retire into owning a business. Of course, time tells all, and I decided instead to work and build up my business on the side. Before long, I was blessed to be own my own full-time.
I completed my undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of Alabama. During the semester between undergraduate and graduate school, I attended The Protocol School of Washington to deepen my understanding of etiquette and hospitality skills. Upon completion of this certification, I immediately opened my business in October of 2011. As time passed, I worked in retail and administration honing my skill set and client base.
There are two sides to my business. I plan weddings, corporate events, and private parties. Alternatively, I teach etiquette workshops and consult within the service industry. I strive to bring these two worlds together and teach people the true importance of thinking beyond yourself. There is a need to follow a silent code of etiquette everywhere you go, no matter what you are doing. It is never out of touch. It is a life skill!
Consistency is my guide. I am able to remain calm and keep things in perspective. I believe people seek my services because I am genuine.
Above all, I am incredibly fortunate and proud to have an established and long-standing work family. They work alongside me every step of the way. As one might imagine, there are many incredible elements that make up executing an event experience. Being able to rely on a team that appreciates the fine details truly puts my mind at ease. I am beyond grateful each person on my staff has sought me out; I have never had to independently seek out employees.
Any advice for managing a team?
I enjoy the people who work with me immensely. They are bright and intentional. I try to anticipate their needs in hopes to make event days run smoothly. For example, snacks, drinks, and meals are provided on event days. We are in the elements, walking miles and miles, and thus, everyone is bound to need a pick-me-up! I want to make working with me easy and stress-free. Maintaining morale is about the team first, a good leader puts themselves in the shadows. It is crucial to build a relationship that goes beyond the surface level. When people know where you stand, when they know you have their back, they want to work hard. They simply need a reason to do so.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Truly the highest compliment and the most rewarding source is word of mouth referrals.
