Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Yesenia Hudson . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Yesenia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Parents can play a significant role in affecting how our lives and careers turn out – and so we think it’s important to look back and have conversations about what our parents did that affected us positive (or negatively) so that we can learn from the billions of experiences in each generation. What’s something you feel your parents did right that impacted you positively.
My parents allowed us to creatively thrive first and foremost through travel. My mother is Nicaraguan and since I was a baby, they took us to visit so that it was woven into our childhood.
My parents also created a loving home and safe place that helped sparked our curiosity through television and film. Growing up Latin American, we would watch anything from Sábado Gigante on Saturdays, telenovelas- or even The Lawrence Welk Show to The Waltons.
Through my parents broad taste and love of film, we grew up exposed to foreign films and the golden aged era of American film.
The diversity in entertainment truly shaped my upbringing.
It is important to emphasis that they created a safe and loving home for us. By doing so, we were able to grow up and focus on our education, hobbies, and lean truly into our dreams and desires.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My life story has been nonlinear.
The pandemic changed my life.
I was living in California and working in the food industry in 2020. I felt called to change due to all I was dealing with and all I knew were three things. I wanted to move out of California, I wanted to drone, and I wanted to start a podcast. So I ended up choosing to live in Dallas, Texas. I didn’t know a soul, and focused on my job transition. I started program managing for a data analytics company on a 2.0 project they were working on with Pepsi for Latin America. I absolutely loved being a part of this project and it furthered my interests in studying data analytics to help companies thrive and make the necessary changes to go up against competitors. Parallel to all of this, my sister was graduating from the University of Rome. At the end of the project I ended up flying to Rome for her graduation ceremony. I had missed her tremendously and decided to stay in Rome for awhile and freelance. What happened next, I owe to God. I started filming Rome and enjoying meeting people and content creating. The culture was beyond what I had envisioned and incredibly beautiful. I fell in love with the Italian culture and way of living. I ended up staying for 7 weeks until I decided it was time to head back to Dallas and renew my lease after that summer. What happened next, I owe to God. I made a pit stop in New York and asked myself if perhaps there would be a job that would keep me there. So I went on Indeed and sure enough I found a role with a helicopter company in social media. When I applied, I used my content creating as a portfolio and extension of my resume and career work. Within 3 days I received the call I was hired. What happened next, I owe to God. I learned quickly that the role in social media had a large job scope. My absolute favorite, was that I became an aerial videographer. This took my dreams to new heights- literally. I felt confident in my ability to continue to film New York while teach other companies how to scale their businesses on social media. Within one month I started getting recognized as a New York City Content Creator. From the work I was producing, I kicked off the journey as a Creative Director. This sparked an incredible summer of networking, collaborating with other Creators, and learning New York even better! Through the lens of a social club, my love of film, and my friends hanging out—- I was inspired to create a Digital Media Agency. This is where I am today and the company launches in January of 2024! I feel truly grateful to be here!
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
The pandemic changed all of our lives. I had just opened up my second store location in the food industry in October of 2019. We were thriving for two months and then the world completely changed by the end of January 2020. The uncertainty and tests at the time pushed me to change industries and I ended up following my passions and leaning into what avenues creatively inspired me!
What are you most looking forward to in 2024?
I’m looking forward to many things!
I’m looking forward to spending more time with my loved ones, traveling, and learning new things! I always remind my loved ones that God’s plan for our life is much greater than our dreams! I can’t wait to see what God has in store for 2024.
