We recently connected with Corey Butts and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Corey, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear from you about what you think Corporate America gets wrong in your industry and why it matters.
Most of them don’t offer benefits that support to their employees in the form of health and fitness. Corporate America should have benefits in place to help each employee to afford a gym membership, healthy food options, a gym at work, group classes at work, which have proven to be great for teamwork , comradery, mental and physical balance. Employees who maintain both mental and physical balance will be more productive, will be more creative, will be out of work less, and all around happier employee. Now don’t get me wrong there are companies that offer these benefits to their employees and those companies have reaped the benefits.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Have you ever had to pivot?
When I started in the fitness industry I trained and managed a gym in Washington Dc. I created a career as a personal trainer. I had a great clientele most of whom trained with me for more than 6 years. It was time for my wife and I to make a decision on where we wanted to live and raise our family. We ended up deciding on San Diego, one of the best choices we’ve made in our opinion. When we moved to San Diego, I wanted to remain in the fitness industry as I knew I could be success and that the lifestyle here was conducive to a to health and fitness. I knew I wanted to work for myself, but I would have to take a step back from where I was in DC. I had to get my feet wet and build my reputation in San Diego. So I got a job at the boxing club which was in Liberty Station. I worked there for a couple years, they were in the process of selling the gym to another company, So I decided to take a leap and start my own fitness business. There was a park directly across the road from the gym I was working at. I had been eying the parking thinking about offering boot camps and personal training outside. I thought San Diego was always so nice outside and why not use this to my advantage. I mean you get to exercise, get vitamin D and enjoy the weather that’s always close perfect. So I started my mobile outdoor boot camp and personal training company Bmorfit, Inc. After a several successful years of outdoor bootcamps and personal training I felt it was time for me to find a facility to offer fitness services. After doing some research, looking at different buildings for the space I wanted, I finally found it and landed in the heart of Mission Valley in the old Union Tribune Building.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I believe that consistency, experience and results have helped me build my reputation in the fitness industry. I’ve been in the industry since 2002 and trained over 1,000’s of people in my career. I pride myself on the facts that I’ve never had a client get injured and my clients have gotten the results they were looking for. I teach and stress proper form and technique, by doing this it reduces the risk of injury and ensures that my clients know how and why their body moves the way it does and how to use it to their advantage on their fitness journey.
