We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Louis Polo a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Louis, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with a fun one – what’s something you believe that most people in your industry (or in general) disagree with?
Considering the current wave of rising social media stars and sensational trends, most people in my industry may gravitate toward creating digital strategies that don’t require much refining. Many would disagree that quality and valued-fueled content will transcend. The notion that compromising the quality of one’s work/content, for the sake of temporary reliability, would endure better results. In other words, working under the basis that mediocrity is relatable and therefore unexecuted digital strategies may perform better. I believe digital strategy and content production requires creative value and quality. Many believe this process may compromise authenticity, but I believe it enhances and engages with users in more valuable ways.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
For as long as I can remember, my intellectual interests always gravitated toward different creative outlets. From photography and storytelling to stretching and dancing. With the birth of social media, specifically Instagram, I found a place where I could finally combine and express my creative outbursts. After nearly ten years of content production, brand strategy, and successfully executing hundreds of digital campaigns, I decided to establish Poshlay Creative Marketing. A content-focused digital firm where my mission is to empower businesses, of all sizes, to harness the full potential of the digital landscape. From brand identity and content distribution, at Poshlay, my vision is to specialize in building engaging online spaces that transcend to the physical world.
I would like for my clients to better understand the value of digital content and strategy, regardless of how “small” they consider their business to be. I want to be there for my client’s success, without undermining the value of interpersonal connections and tangible consumer experiences.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Among the many aspects of building a digital audience, we must understand that follower count is not a synonym for growth. Sure, it may signify potential reach and provide a certain status symbol within the digital world, but when it comes to “building an audience,” we have to consider how strong of a digital community we are contemplating. A piece of advice for any business, or personal brand, starting to build their social media presence would be to focus on the strength of their online community rather than ultra-fast follower growth. First, tailor your strategy to build trust, engagement, and discoverability. The follower growth will positively take its natural course.
I slowly and steadily built my social media presence with consistency and persistence. Self-evaluating my content and always finding new ways to improve quality. Investing in myself and ensuring every moment is still enjoyable.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
One of the most rewarding aspects of being creative is to see your ideas come to fruition. In many cases, what one may consider an irrational thought or perhaps a complex series of incomplete ideas, can result in pleasing creative results. The mental funneling process of building a creative concept and mastering a plan on how to successfully execute it.
