We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Drasko V. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Drasko below.
Drasko V, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I’ve had the opportunity to create several projects this year that resonate deeply with me. Among these, the ‘Art of Time’ stands out. This initiative involved a generative and interactive art projection on the Santa Monica clock tower building. It’s a prime example of my passion for integrating cutting-edge technology, art, AI, sound and human interaction, offering people a novel way to engage with art.
Another highlight was an interactive audio-visual remix created for the Beyond Basel event in Miami. This project, like others, reflects my ongoing pursuit to redefine the boundaries of digital art.
I’m currently developing an exciting new venture: a global digital art event. This project aims to bridge distances by allowing artists from around the world to participate, fostering a sense of global artistic community.
Particularly with the Art of Time in Santa Monica, we embraced a multi-faceted approach. By utilizing AI to remix and transform original art pieces, and projecting these onto the clock tower, we created a dynamic, evolving canvas. This canvas was responsive to real-time environmental data from Santa Monica, including factors like wind and temperature. Moreover, we introduced an interactive element, enabling the public to alter the visual narrative through simple gestures on their mobile devices. This project was not just a display of art; it was a living fusion of technology, environment, and community.
Behind the scenes, collaborations are the cornerstone of these projects. Working with creative geniuses like Torin Blankensmith and Dan Molnar adds a richness and depth to my work, infusing it with diverse perspectives and a heightened level of creativity.
As I look to the future, my aim is to continue developing immersive experiences that blur the line between digital and physical realms. I am dedicated to creating platforms where art becomes an interactive, communal experience, accessible and engaging for audiences both locally and globally
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
As an artist and creative director, I have been creating and working on a wide array of projects. My experience spans from composing music and designing sound for films, games and interactive experiences, to creating interactive digital art installations and interactive web experiences for some of the top brands around the world.
Some of the recent notable projects include my data art featured at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, an experience that reflects my skill in merging traditional art with digital techniques, data and AI. Projects like the ‘Art of Time’ in Santa Monica, an art projection on the city’s iconic clock tower, showcase my approach to integrating art into public spaces in unique ways. I am also a co-founder of Kaidan Universe, a cosmic horror IP currently developing a game and a comic book series. I have been part of many collaborations with incredible music and visual artists from around the world. Most of my process and features are usually shared on my social channels on instagram and twitter: @drasko_v , and my website www.drasticstudios.com
We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
I believe NFTs are set to revolutionize the art world, offering artists, creators, and fans new types of opportunities. For artists, especially in music, NFTs mean more than just proof of ownership, they can enable a sustainable revenue model through embedded royalties. Fans are not just passive consumers anymore, they can engage directly with their favorite artists, remixing music tracks through NFT rights, and participating in a collaborative art culture. These are just a few examples of many. I believe we will soon see that NFTs are paving a way to a more dynamic and equitable ecosystem for creators and consumers.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One significant lesson I’ve had to unlearn is that our value and identity shouldn’t be confined by our societal and environmental programming we are all exposed to throughout life. This journey involved a deep introspection and a conscious effort to detach from ingrained behaviors shaped by societal expectations. I learned the importance of peeling away these external layers to reveal and embrace my authentic self. This process of unlearning has been fundamental in allowing me to pursue my true creative path and becoming an authentic individual and artist.
