We were lucky to catch up with Patricia Chica recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Patricia, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
My name is Patricia Chica, and my journey in the film and TV industry has been quite dynamic. From directing and casting to writing, producing, videography, editing, photography, coaching, and public relations – I’ve embraced many roles in the film industry, but my true calling is directing and producing author-driven stories. But it hasn’t always been that way.
Growing up in an environment where the arts weren’t celebrated, I found my initial inspiration from blockbuster films and music videos on MTV. Later, as a film student, my horizons expanded with exposure to French New Wave filmmakers like Jean-Luc Godard. The cinematic language of these visionaries captivated me, particularly after watching Godard’s “Breathless.” That’s when I decided to become a director and learn the craft from the ground up, at film school and as an intern to other directors and producers.
My creative process is driven by a desire to be a versatile director, mastering every aspect of filmmaking. My initial goal was to become an actor, inspired by the movies of my childhood. It was when I was handed a camera during college, that I fell in love with directing and I have never looked back since then. Even at an early age, instead of waiting for opportunities to present themselves to me, I took control of my career by purchasing a video camera so I could make my own short films and funding them myself. This shift empowered me to build a filmography while offering value and service to collaborators and projects.
In the last decade, I’ve delved into Chi Energy and metaphysics, investing substantial time and resources in disciplines such as Reiki, meditation, kundalini yoga, feng shui, and more. My goal is to integrate conscious practices into filmmaking, creating narratives that uplift the industry and resonate with diverse audiences globally.
My creative inspiration stems from travels, human connections, and life experiences. “Montréal Girls,” my latest feature film, holds a special place as a semi-autobiographical project set to be the first feature made with the Chi Energy method. It not only reflects my personal experiences but also showcases real characters and artists from Montreal’s vibrant underground scene.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
As a filmmaker and storyteller, I strive to bring narratives that present alternative views of the world, so it can inspire and empower audiences to reflect on the nature of their choices and aspirations. My cinematic work has been presented on the international festival circuit, with my films securing a place in the Official Selection of over 300 film festivals worldwide. My storytelling style is characterized by character-driven narratives, profound emotions, and elevated messages.
My films have garnered acclaim from both audiences and critics alike. The numerous accolades these films have received—over 60 awards and counting—have humbly allowed me to reach many different audiences across the world.
Moreover, at the heart of my cinematic creations is a captivating blend of dreamy surrealism and introspective self-reflection. I use cinema as a canvas for exploring the depths of the human experience, fueled by a higher consciousness that challenges viewers to contemplate the profound mysteries of existence.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My highest purpose is to be a director-producer creating intentional ripples of positivity and personal growth in my industry. Additionally, I aim to be a storyteller crafting narratives that inspire, empower, and transform audiences worldwide for a better world.
Motivated by the desire to serve, I’ve created a methodology involving Chi Energy awareness and mindset psychology to utilize higher consciousness in storytelling and performance. I believe that when artists intentionally co-create with their energy centers (chakras), the laws of nature, and the six senses, and, with a clear positive purpose, the results are always more significant.
My methodology integrates mindful practices such as meditation, visualization, movement exercises, and self-awareness techniques. I teach anyone in production, from directors to actors. Even producers, writers, financiers, entrepreneurs, and sales agents have found this approach beneficial. Once integrated into your routine, it becomes part of the Chi Energy mindset.
In the past decade, I’ve educated myself more profoundly about Chi Energy and metaphysics, investing tens of thousands of dollars and hours in this journey. I’ve tested countless energy techniques on myself and trained many from the entertainment industry. After many trials, I’ve created a simple methodology connecting the dots between modalities useful to creative people. The techniques apply to filmmaking, storytelling, management, and performance, and they help elevate anyone’s potential.
Imagine if every production used conscious practices. It would uplift the industry and have a ripple effect on how we co-create and communicate meaningful messages worldwide.
This model serves as a springboard for storytelling and a blueprint for expanding anyone’s performances and imagination. Although Chi Energy may seem complex, I’ve made it accessible and fun, ensuring it doesn’t alienate my students or colleagues.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A valuable lesson I’ve learned is to embrace rejection. Despite encountering numerous rejections throughout my career, both in the past and present, I’ve chosen to shift my mindset. Rather than viewing them as obstacles, I see them as opportunities to improve myself, using each “no” as constructive feedback to leverage my growth.
