We recently connected with Lisa Story and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Lisa thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Parents can play a significant role in affecting how our lives and careers turn out – and so we think it’s important to look back and have conversations about what our parents did that affected us positive (or negatively) so that we can learn from the billions of experiences in each generation. What’s something you feel your parents did right that impacted you positively.
I grew up with very little money and our family struggled a great deal in the early years while my parents put themselves thorugh college with three young children. They taught us with perceverence and a good work ethic, nothing was out of reach. My parents relied on us from an early age to help around the house, gave us responsibilities like making dinner, shoveling snow, and raking leaves; we learned what hard work was, and we didnt give up. We learned that whatever you wanted in life, you had to work for it, and the three of us have put in a lot of hard work to becoming successful. Getting to this position of owning multiple businesses, was not easy, but was the result of a lot of blood, sweat and lots of tears!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
My frist few years in the industry were extremely challenging, as my husband who was active duty Army at the time was denied his retrement at 20 years and sent to Hawaii. Our family decided it was better for my business to stay put here in Texas, until he could retire. During those crazy few years of COVID, I was raisining our boys alone, learning and operating a real estate and Property Management office, in addition to building a Team and trying to keep it all together. To say it was tough, would be an understatement. I learned a lot, and grew a lot personally and professionally, but hope to never have to go through that again.
Let’s talk M&A – we’d love to hear your about your experience with buying businesses.
More recently, my husband and I decided to purchase “CROSSFIT CENTEX” a local CrossFit box here in Belton, Texas. I have been a member for a few years and when the old owners decided it was time to move on, we chose to step up to the cahllenge to keep the doors open for the community. We grew to love the people of CrossFit Centex as much as the Health and fitness aspect, and couldnt bare to see it close. The process was quite smooth, and took less than 45 days. We were able to transition everything quickly, and owe a lot of that to our quick moving Attorneys and agreement of all parties. We have now owned the business for a little more than 3 months and things are going very well! We have enjoyed being a part of the industry and getting our family involved in the community. Adding to that, I also received a Level 1 CrossFit certification in orderto align with the CrossFit affiliation as well as help out coaching as needed; Being a CrossFit Coach was not something I expected to add to my plate this year after studying all year for my brokers license, but it turns out I quite enjoy the adjustment in environment and it has been a welcoming change to my day to day!
