We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Doug. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Doug below.
Alright, Doug thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
Music, is how I make my money. In one way or another, it’s the only thing I know. I work hard everyday to achieve my goals, and it’s so rewarding seeing it come to life.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a solo artist from Orange County, under the name Dreams of Vertigo. I’ve been doing Dreams of Vertigo, since 2014, but have been doing things as a solo artist for 5 years now.
I pride myself on the hard work I put into every release. I love creating music, and making a difference to people with my music.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When I first started making music under the Dreams of Vertigo umbrella, it was definitely difficult. I had been in bands before, and learned a lot from each band. I had a certain set of ideals, and ways of doing things that were out of the ordinary, compared to a lot of the bands in the industry. However, now I’m starting to see the fruits of all that hard work pay off. Working with some of my biggest music idols, working with the biggest names in the music industry, all because I have never given up on my ideals, and the way I do things.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I wish I knew that it’s ok to make mistakes in order to succeed. Had I known some of the resources that were available to me, I think I would have gotten a lot further, but I also feel like maybe that was my journey.
