We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jared Cohn. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jared below.
Hi Jared, thanks for joining us today. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
I’ve been able to earn a full time living from creative work through nonstop grinding, and sacrifice. Major sacrifice of everything, the hardest part is your soul hurts after years.
The creative fields are harder to earn a full time than working in business or finance. It took a long time and then you can make one stupid mistake and you can be broke, or ‘in just a few bad decisions that you thought were good decisions.’ Day one, you enter the race, so then I had that young man energy and optimism but after time that fades and somehow all the victories are meaningless because you’re still to some extent struggling. I would’ve liked to have believed I would have done something differently if advised but you can never go back in time and even entertaining that train of thought is dangerous. Just have to collect yourself, ask yourself where you are really at, how can you do better, and do those difficult things. Life and success is about doing difficult things.

Jared, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Being able to use a camera and capture great video is one thing but to tell a story with that is meaningful is better. That’s much harder to do, you need a great script, the story is the heart of things. So to find what the brand or artist or movie is about and capture that is what great filmmakers do. Getting to the point of things without making it feel like that’s what going on.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
My journey commenced in New York, where I found myself entering the entertainment industry with no connections. Over the years, I faced numerous challenges and made my fair share of mistakes. The journey was arduous, marked by moments of extreme depression and confronting personal demons. Nevertheless, I persevered, determined to elevate myself. Each day presented a new struggle, and, as Buddha wisely stated, ‘life is suffering’—a sentiment with which I wholeheartedly agree.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My current goal or mission is to stay engaged, maintain my sanity, and contribute artistically in a way that provides creative fulfillment.
