We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jaylan Hoover a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jaylan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Often the greatest growth and the biggest wins come right after a defeat. Other times the failure serves as a lesson that’s helpful later in your journey. We’d appreciate if you could open up about a time you’ve failed.
Being an independent artist comes with a hard process of failures and wins in general but to me it’s all about how you take the constructive criticism of others and continue to push forward with your craft and grow from what you heard. an experience that I’ve had with failure is my first show that I did. I didn’t get the results that I wanted Being the reason because I feel like I didn’t find my voice or really know where I wanted to be in the music field and I winged it. That particular moment in my life made me go harder in the music, and it also tell me a valuable lesson that preparation is everything always make sure that you’re prepared before you step in the door to perform or to do anything in this world always be prepared.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Getting it to the music industry for me all sparked when I moved to Georgia that’s when I really started to gain my exposure behind my music but the craft has been with me all my life growing up my dad playing music all the time. My dad‘s dad was a bass guitar player And my dad was part of the church choir as a child so music just runs through my blood. for those who don’t know I am mainly a rap artist I do do R&B you can find me on all platforms under the name Bighoover. I feel like what set me apart from the rest. is really my versatility being a artist nowadays the wave always changes. People are growing their younger, getting older and older are getting older and you have to continue to provide that connection with each Age group and that’s what makes music so important. The ability to connect with others through my Music. I can say one of the things I most proud of is being in this magazine. This would be my second magazine featuring in. I would love to feature again in this magazine I want to say thank you canvas rebel for giving me the opportunity to be a part of this network

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
My business partners are really my family and friends, my close friends I would like to shout out my brother, Joseph Hoover for being there alongside me through my first show all the way to where I am and where I stand now also would like to think Ty Holley who opened a lot of doors for me when it came to performing in clubs and connecting with individuals that have a foot somewhat in the door inside of the music industry I would also like to thank Will Callaway, which is the chief security guard of my label NHA, and just a very genuine person to surround yourself around

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Something I had to unlearn was the consecutive drops. I was doing when it came to Music. I had to teach myself to not put everything out at one time into paste myself when it comes to dropping music, I know when you first find your voice and when you first get in tune with your audience, you become hungry to drop music constantly, but in some cases, you need to learn how to paste yourself to not over consume your audience or over throw music to your audience. Give them a chance to really learn your songs if you drop three songs, wait another month or two weeks at least three weeks to drop. Another song is what I told myself .
