Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lee Ann Murray. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Lee Ann thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
One of my greatest strengths is that I know a lot about a lot. I decided against “finding my niche” and became multi-discipline. I can do everything from HTML, design work, media interviews, to writing a press release. It has helped me immensely in being able to lead our marketing department. Be open minded and learn other skills outside of your own. Almost everything I know that has been of any value to me was self-taught.

Lee Ann, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m the Director of Marketing for Traders Village Marketplaces, the largest outdoor flea market in the country. I’ve created a unique space for myself through both the breadth and depth of my audience marketing expertise. Part of that comes from working on the agency side where I was lucky enough to work on some of the top global brands in the world.
Now as an in-house marketer, I direct strategy, development and execution of social media, digital, TV, radio, OOH, public relations, creative, and event promotion in four Texas markets; Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and El Paso.
Some of my most recent projects have also been my most exciting and rewarding. This year we acquired an amusement park, Western Playland, outside of El Paso. Being part of that team was extremely complex and stretched my skill set way beyond marketing.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Marketers often work in a subjective space, one that requires engaging content and innovation. Our ultimate goal though is always to move the business forward whether that’s sales, attendance, or brand recognition. Don’t underestimate your clients/guests, they will tell you if you’re on the right path.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I’m very passionate about what I do and marketing in general. I love the creative side of it, I love the numbers side of it. There are always new problems to solve which keeps it challenging and new projects which keeps it fun. Looking back, there are very few careers I think I would have enjoyed this much.
