As a business owner it’s easy to feel like your work is never done – because no matter how much you do, there is always more that could theoretically be done. Many business owners we’ve spoken with also feel that they have a responsibility to be available to their team and that if they step away they are putting an undue burden on their team. So, we wanted to hear from a broad range of business owners on whether they take vacations and we’ve shared some of their responses below.

As a small business owner and a “one woman operation,” finding the balance between life, business, and taking time for myself has been a difficult journey. It is important to me to find time during vacations or busy seasons of life to be intentional about keeping in communication with my customers and completing necessary tasks. When I am able to connect with a new or existing customer and provide them with a realistic expectation of completion timeline it allows me to then take a step back and relax without worrying about the projects I have waiting for me when I return. OMG, yes I try to take as many vacations as I can. Your business is your baby but as an entrepreneur of a small business, you feel obligated to work work work with no play because you want to see your business flourish but what about your happiness, right. As a business owner, I take up to six trips a year with two trips that I do every year which is my family vacation and baecation, Being the business person I am, I always plan ahead for vacations so I make sure that my businesses will be okay while I’m gone. The short answer is yes! I step away often. The long answer is everything is a balance. I’ve never been a fan of the statement “your business follows you everywhere” so I’ve chosen to have an interpretation of that instead.
