We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nina Diaz. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nina below.
Nina, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
I came up with Photography By Obscura because I liked the idea of having people look at photographs and wonder who was behind the lens. I also wanted to incorporate something that pays tribute to my latin heritage. While I was rather scared to launch Photography By Obscura. I also wanted to keep sharing the joy of freezing moments in time to families, friends and all those who wanted to be captured by my lens.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My photography career started when I was 15 and a sophomore in HS. I was asked to join a year earlier by a teacher because they said I had a good eye. At the time I said no because I had my four year plan in HS carefully crafted already. however there was a class that got canceled and I had a gap in my schedule and one of the options was yearbook. That is when I decided to take the class and soon after that decision I became the schools official photographer going to every single event. Beginning junior year of HS I was named Editor in Chief and the idea of having a photography business slowly started to form and the summer after graduation. I decided to launch Photography By Obscura.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is seeing the joy on peoples faces when they see their pictures and the vision I created for them. Especially when they aren’t familiar with the creative process and are so pleasantly surprised of the outcome. For me seeing that I have made a difference in the way they see themselves in their desired photos is a joy I wouldn’t trade for the world.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My mission driving my creative journey is just making people happy seeing their vision’s come to life. Essentially freezing the art of time for them to look back at and enjoy the memory of that time of their lives.
