We recently connected with Norby Ela and have shared our conversation below.

Norby, appreciate you joining us today. I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?

It is a yes. Sometimes, when struggles and challenges occur, that moment would be a no. If you pander to them after, it is a yes overall. Because these would just shape you as a more creative artist. Sadness and suffering are what every creative Actually, I do have a day job. Having the wonder of giving up the job and putting my full attention on my art would be a dream, a freedom, and luck. But in harsh reality, I would need a lot to have that luxury.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

A Filipino guy who does art. Started self-publishing my own comic book stories. While converting from traditional to digital drawing, I got into commission work for personal and commercial purposes. I have a background in media covering pop culture and in advertising in the Philippines. I believe I’ve delivered an all-out effort to all my creative output.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?

Society can integrate by collaborating with the artists, purchasing their work, and promoting the artists and the work. Especially to your local ones who are small and upcoming ones who have little followerships.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?

One of my goals is to have a mural of Vaya Con Dios – it’s basically a character of Keanu Reeves as Jesus Christ – with a large text “Be excellent to each other” on some building where everybody can see, read, and inspire.
