We caught up with the brilliant and insightful YEA a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, YEA thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I knew I wanted to pursue a creative/ artistic path when I realized my life experience meant something. I started with poetry first. I remember one thanksgiving I recited a poem I wrote about the importance of a women to the homeless shelter that I resided in. We were all in the same predicament ,but in different ways for different reasons. Their eyes lit up after my performance. I felt as though my poem was a beacon of faith and hope. I inspired some to write and others to be kind. My goal has always been to inspire others.

YEA, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hello I’m YEA and Im a rap artist. I’m from Macon, GA but I reside in North Carolina. I got into the music industry by networking and going to open mics to showcase my talent. I empower aspiring artists to stand out and inspire people to chase their dreams. I am the epitome of what not accepting ” No!” looks like. I make the music that others don’t. I don’t mind stepping in and out of genres opening up my horizons of creating. My voice and delivery sets me apart from others as well as my work ethic. I am most proud of all of my works because it identifies my journey and growth as a creative. My favorite song that I’ve created is Shook. It was a recap of my youth. It was inspired by 2-6 very own J Cole. I’ve gotten a cosign from Sway in the morning and many others. I would like to mention I am most thankful for my supporters who constantly keep me motivated.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
SHARE ! SHARE ! SHARE! The best way to show support to creatives is to share their music, photos, and brand. I am so appreciative of all my supporters that constantly share my music and cheer me on. I think it’s very important for creatives to collaborate with each other because most of us have the same goals. We can do so much together.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
“The truth is I do not know” by The Amazing Soul is a thought provoking and engaging read that will inspire you to embrace uncertainty, find simplicity in the unknown, and infuse more fun into your everyday life. It’s a reminder that life’s greatest treasures can be found when you let go of the need to know everything and allow yourself to enjoy the journey. This is very important for me as an artist to focus on my journey, have fun ,and enjoy every moment of the experience.
