We recently connected with Brayson Aldrich and have shared our conversation below.
Brayson, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Being successful in anything takes a lot. Becoming successful takes a lot of time, research, dedication, and losses. I think an important part of success is your perception of it. I remember all the setbacks and challenges I faced to get where I am today. I remember staying up all night editing photos or learning about my camera. I like to think back to those days I first started, and when you compare where I was to now, I would say I’m pretty successful so far. There’s always more to do though and more success to achieve.
Brayson, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started photography after not making my school’s basketball team. Instead of being upset with how things turned out, I pivoted towards sports photography, which allowed me to stay close to the game I grew to enjoy. A few months after I started, one of the players on the team asked me to take his prom photos and from there I just continued to work with clients to capture countless memories ranging from birthdays, weddings, graduations, and more.
This field of work has allowed me to express my creativity and knowledge in ways I wouldn’t be able to before. I am proud of how much I have grown thanks to photography and I can’t wait to continue this for however long it last.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
There was a booking I had that I’ll never forget. It was very normal at first, I arrived at the location, introduced myself and we started the shoot. The photos were turning out amazing and I was very excited to go home and edit everything. That was until my camera simply stopped shooting. I was confused and explained to my client that I didn’t fully understand what was wrong and I would update her on the situation. Once I got home, I found out my card corrupted mid-shoot. I was super embarrassed and saddened by this event and felt like I failed my client. I texted her and asked if she was able to maybe shoot the photos again the next day and thankfully she was able to, and this time everything went smoothly!
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I think the most rewarding aspect is always the feedback. Whether it’s a client excited about there photos or people reacting to new post, feedback is always a rewarding thing.
