Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Evaluz Negron. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Evaluz, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My mother is my hero. She did many things right. One of the most important things was allow my brothers and I to see her for who she was – through the good, the bad , the ugly and everything in between. She was a great example of someone who aspired to improve overall emotional intelligence and modeled to me overall confidence and empowerment. More importantly, she was open and honest during struggle and confusion. She endured lots of abuse and neglect, some of which I witnessed but seeing her step into When I applied for college, I realized how little money was earned on a yearly basis which I am still in awe of how she made do with 3 children. Due to the confidence she held and admitted to us when she wasn’t sure of something, I am able to stand confidently in my own questions. I remember when it was time to apply for financial aid, my mother did not know how to complete the process. However, due to her willingness and receptivity to learn, she was able to connect with my school and receive support to get my application submitted timely. This is just one example, but there are many. Thanks to her, I have an overall positive self image and self awareness. This is a skill that leads into my work and has allowed me to pursue opportunities that may have been difficult without the self confidence instilled in me. I am humbled and grateful to have her as a role model.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Clinical Supervisor. I specialize in trauma informed and family systems work and am EMDR and Brainspotting Trained. I work with adolescents and adults and have a special love for maternal mental health. I am bilingual, and work with many people in the BIPOC community. In addition to direct care, I provide clinical supervision to provisionally licensed social workers as well as mental health counselors. This is a love of mine as I get to part of the development journey for newer clinicians. I am most proud of built relationships in the community. I often receive referrals from word of mouth which is humbling as I truly believe relationships and attunement with others is the most important element in therapy and supervision. My private practice , Point of View, LLC is still in its baby stage but am most proud of the established growth and quality work provided. If you are seeking a therapist or in the process of seeking a supervisor who values the importance of human connection, I welcome the engagement!

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
The ability to be receptive and flexible is incredibly important for being successful in the field of mental health. I would argue and say that these abilities are important for many fields in fact! When working with others, rigidity prevents connection and can impact progress and growth. Always be willing to look in the mirror to be sure you’re not missing opportunities.

If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
What is interesting is I started out wanting to be a teacher. I knew I wanted to help children and adolescents but when offered the opportunity to teach, I completely shifted as I noticed there was more connection I wanted with students that is not possible in a classroom. If I were to go back, I wouldn’t have chosen another profession as every experience and choice has gotten me to this solid place in my career.
