Chamonix, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I knew from a very young age that I wanted to be apart of something meaningful to the world and I wanted to create something special that would mean a lot to me and other people. I loved the idea of curating unique and stylish clothing and accessories for people in my community. The idea of my boutique had been floating around in my mind for years, and one day, I decided it was time to turn my dream into reality. The goal was to create a safe space for women to express themselves in a unique way and I’ve always been committed to making a positive impact in the fashion industry, and empowering women from all walks of life.
The idea first started off as a swimwear line, which took off and did really well in the first 6 months of launching but then I wanted more. I needed to add more to my brand so I began to add apparel and accessories to the mix. I wanted women to feel appreciated, understood, and self-assured when shopping for new threads and I created a place where women can celebrate their personal style.
I created this brand at the height of a global pandemic so there were several challenges I’ve experienced from the start. Summer Escape has its fair share of challenges but continues to change and find ways to stand out. Fashion brands are competitive, however, we continued to focus on developing a unique brand value, innovating new products that stand out and targeting specific niches that are underserved. I overcame those obstacles by putting together a detailed plan to address those specific challenges, taking actionable steps, and allocating necessary resources. Even after overcoming a challenge, there’s always room for improvement. I’m continuously learning and improving to ensure my business remains agile and competitive. Challenges are part of my entrepreneurial journey and I’ll continue to grow and evolve my brand. My ability to navigate and overcome them not only strengthens my business but also contributes to my personal growth as a business owner.

Summer Escape Collection is a woman owned, Black-owned online boutique headquartered in Tempe, AZ founded in 2021 with a passion for fashion and a commitment to spreading love. Our core mission is to uplift and empower women through inclusivity, diversity, and self-expression through our fashionable curation. Embarking on the journey of building a brand is a deeply personal and rewarding experience. As the founder, I reflect on what I am most proud of and the key aspects I want potential clients, followers, and fans to know about me and my brand. This article serves as a transparent window into the heart of my passion and the core values that define my brand. At the core of my pride is the transformation of a passion into a purpose-driven venture. My brand is not merely a business; it’s a vessel through which I channel my deepest passions and beliefs. Every product, service, or content piece is a testament to the authenticity and love that goes into what I do. Summer Escape has a good reputation in the community, as well as loyal and established customers. We are open 24/7 via online that gives customers the advantage of shopping at their own convenience. I am focused on expanding to a brick and mortar to accommodate new products and future services such as beauty products and hair extensions. Adding more products to the line will help increase both brand awareness and market visibility. In a world driven by fast-paced consumerism, my brand stands firm in its commitment to quality over quantity. Whether it’s a product, service, or piece of content, I want potential clients to understand that every offering is carefully crafted, ensuring it adds substantial value to their lives. We also have plans to provide resources to educate and prepare other entrepreneurs on how to build and start their own brands and to become the pillar of generational wealth for people all over the world.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
Launching a business is a thrilling endeavor, but one of the initial hurdles faced by many entrepreneurs is securing the capital needed to turn a vision into reality. We rely solely on donations and self funding from the very beginning which is extremely challenging at times, especially in our current economy. Self-funding a business starts with a profound sense of independence. Entrepreneurs who embark on this journey often do so with a strong conviction in their vision and a desire to retain control over the direction of their business. The ability to make decisions autonomously becomes a cornerstone of the self-funded model. Funding a business from one’s own pockets is not just a financial strategy; it’s a testament to an entrepreneur’s belief in their vision. The self-funded journey weaves a personal tapestry of success, where financial independence, frugality, and strategic decision-making create a foundation for sustainable growth. As self-funded businesses flourish, they stand as living proof that success doesn’t always require external validation but can be nurtured from within, one determined step at a time.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
In the competitive landscape of any industry, building a sterling reputation is akin to creating a beacon that draws clients and customers toward your brand. As I reflect on the journey of establishing a reputation within my market, several key factors emerge as the cornerstones of success. Open and transparent communication has been a linchpin in shaping my reputation. From clear and honest product descriptions to timely and candid communication with clients, transparency fosters a sense of trust. It builds a bridge between the brand and its audience, creating an environment where relationships can flourish. Being reliable also builds trust and reliability is the bedrock on which a reputation is built. Consistently meeting or exceeding expectations sets the stage for positive word-of-mouth and repeat business. It’s the small, consistent actions that, over time, weave a narrative of reliability and dependability.
