We were lucky to catch up with Monika Monk recently and have shared our conversation below.
Monika, appreciate you joining us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
Twisted Intimacy got its name because I wanted a name that described both aspects of my business: sensual body movement and being able to be vulnerable with yourself. “Twisted” represents the sensual body movement side of my business where we learn how to embrace our bodies with movement. “Intimacy” represents the coaching aspect of my business where I teach you how to be vulnerable with yourself and educating about your body. Because of misconceptions around the word intimacy, some people assume that what I do focuses only on eroticism, which is not the case.

Monika, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am an intimacy and sensuality coach that provides a safe space for women and couples to discover self-love and self-intimacy through sensual body movement and sexual health education. Since intimacy is all about being able to be vulnerable and knowing your vulnerabilities, I am sharing my knowledge and experiences on my own intimacy journey to help others on their own journeys.
Twisted Intimacy is for those women that have felt lost in a relationship, career, and life but want to be able to create a new path for themselves. I always tell my clients that if you don’t know your own vulnerabilities, communication styles, and self-care practices, how can you expect anyone else to know them for you? I also work with couples who want to various learn communication techniques, explore new forms of intimacy, and cultivate better relationship bonds.
When you work with me as your intimacy and sensuality coach, you are getting a friend, confidant, and accountability partner. I want you to work with until you don’t need me anymore because that means you have reached that part of your journey where you have all the tools to navigate easily and effectively.
I love being asked to speak and share my story on various platforms, such as conferences, retreats, and podcasts. It provides confirmation for me that the content that I speak about and my journey is needed to be shared.
Twisted Intimacy has several services, products and offers that I offer my clients. For coaching, I offer 1-1 coaching and a self-paced coaching course called Master Your Intimacy. I also create customized self-care, pleasure, and workout plans based on cycle syncing. In addition, I sell adult toy products, Seed Cycling Journal, and other books that are coming out soon.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
There are times in your business when you have to learn when something is not working for you or meant for you to do. I had to learn that a few times. One prime example was when I had to decide how I wanted to teach and coach my clients that would fit my schedule and be beneficial to my business. At the time, I was renting an in-person studio space and was so focused on doing group classes. I was extremely hesitant to do 1-1 coaching and also was listening to other people’s opinions about in-person classes and group classes. It got to the point where no one was coming to my classes, and I was spending an unnecessary expense. I made the decision to stop renting the space and move everything virtual. That has been more favorable to me, not only financially but I am able to reach so many people nationwide now. I may consider doing more in-person events and maybe even hosting a few online group classes again. I’m not afraid to pivot again if I need to.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I’ve found that as a business owner, you have to listen to what your clients and target audience want to hear or know from you and not offer things that you like to offer. For me, I found that my target audience really likes to hear me speak, watch me dance, and offer tips. I am now catering more to that because when I wasn’t, I wasn’t gaining my target audience’s trust. I’m also catering my content around a new but relatable concept that not only keeps my target audience engaged but also offers value to them.
