We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Madison White . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Madison below.
Madison , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
I always thought of becoming a lash technician after graduating high school, but I didn’t execute the idea until a year and half later. I started off selling customized bangles, and began to realized that wasn’t my passion. I knew that I would become an entrepreneur, but I couldn’t figure out what exactly I wanted to do. Fast forward to summer of 2021, I was getting my lashes done by another lash technician and I mentioned I wanted to start my own Lash Business. Those very few words led her to teaching me the basics of lashing. Ever since that day I took it upon myself to teach myself everything else that I needed to know about lashing. At that time I was working at Walmart, and I was able to purchase all the tools I needed to lash my first client. The next step was figuring out my brand name. I wanted something different and unique. My name is Madison Monaé, so I incorporated my middle name and added “Minked It” to it. I created a instagram account and asked five people to be a model free of charge. I’m beyond grateful that they trusted me and believed in my craft. After taking five models for free I decided to advertise $50 sets until I felt comfortable with my work.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Madison White, and I am an upcoming esthetician. I was raised by a single mother in Chicago, Illinois. From a young age I watched my mother struggle and work very hard while trying to provide for me. I knew then I wanted to work for myself, but I didn’t know what I wanted to do. As a kid I remember asking my Mother to sell candy in school, but she didn’t allow me too, lol. Although that didn’t go well I still had the desire to become an entrepreneur. During the pandemic I had enough time to focus, and I started selling bangles. As time went on I realized I liked the idea of selling custom jewelry but that wasn’t my niche. So then I thought about doing lashes. It took one time for me to say “I want to start my own lash business” for someone to invest in me and show me the basics. From that very moment I’ve grown so much as a lash artist and entrepreneur.
I consider myself an upcoming esthetician because after I graduate college that will be the next step in my career. As of now I am a lash technician that helps women enhance the length, thickness, and curl of natural eyelashes. Being a lash tech I provide creative services such as application of various eyelash extension styles, such as classic, volume, or hybrid lashes. Additionally, I offer creative touches like colored lashes or specialty designs for clients seeking a unique and personalized appearance.
My skills and techniques set me apart from other lash techs. I make sure to focus on tailoring lash styles to suit each client preference and eye shaped. I prioritize high quality products and providing my clients with excellent customer service.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
The beginning part of my journey shows my resilience because I started from nothing. It all started with an idea and hard work. I took my first set of clients in my room on my bed, to borrowing a lash bed from a friend, and then investing in my own lash bed. I went from 0 clients a day to getting off work and having back to back clients. I continued to work my full time job, maintained school, and do lashes. All while marketing myself and putting myself out there. As I’m writing this I remember how determined and dedicated I felt to start my business. Everyday I was doing something to help me prosper in my craft. I remained consistent and faithful to my business. Giving up is not an option for me. It’ll be days you’ll be challenged, but the beauty is overcoming the obstacles.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I started off with 0 followers. I made sure to post consistently and promote myself every single day. I didn’t care if I only posted about my business. I knew someone is watching and eventually follow me. I built my audience on social media by consistency, engaging content, and understanding my target audience are key. Interact with your followers, use relevant hashtags, and be authentic to create a genuine connection.
