We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kate Medvedeva a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kate thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
When people talk about their success stories in business, they tend to talk about end result. What they need to tell is the story of non-stop research, resilient willpower to stay in the field in spite of any difficulties. When I started my business, I did not know I am going to be my own accountant, sales person, digital marketing specialist, and many other roles I took on. It takes a lot of motivation and courage every day to continue with the dream and make it a plan, before any results can be visible.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Kate Medvedeva, I am the Owner and Travel Advisor of Travel with Kate, located in West Bloomfield, Michigan. The interesting part of my journey was that I am a CPA accountant and have extensive background in finance, accounting, mortgage business, real estate, anything possible accept sales. I had to change my mindset to become successful in sales. I am very proud of what I do, I provide one stop worry-free travel experience to clients, when they leave, they have all the knowledge and tools on how to spend their time on vacation best fit to their personal needs and wants and they have ready to go package that includes: my expertise, my time invested in the project, 24/7 customer support in case of emergencies and questions, and also flight tickets, resort reservations, private transportation that’s certified, as well as excursions and activities along the way. I will suggest best places to eat out, hikes to the nearby waterfall or cenotes or suggestions to a tasting tour in the wineries nearby. Every client is different, but what sets me apart is the infinite desire to help my clients and desire to find something amazing for them to share with others upon arrival.
How did you build your audience on social media?
There are so many books out there on building your social media, I probably read nearly all of them. What it teaches is that you have to try, try, try and if you fail that means you have to try, try, try again. That circle never ends, because algorithms changes all the time. Does it mean that I know what I am doing 100%? Absolutely not. Sometimes I follow steps in the books on how to build your social media, sometimes its new trends you have to follow but in absolutely 100% of cases you have to follow your heart. Your instagram or facebook page becomes who you are, it becomes the face of your brand and if you are trying to copy someone else, it just means you are one of the millions out there who don’t have a personality vibe. So my advise to someone like me starting their business is to make mistakes, try new things and in the end do it with the smile on their face, because it truly makes them happy.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
As I transitioned myself from corporate accounting mindset to the salesperson world, I read a lot of books and articles, podcasts and motivational videos. Only few of them were truly beneficial, like John C. Maxwell books and videos. My best advice is to choose a mentor or life coach that resonates to you personally and professionally with what they stand for and work with them in tandem to make you unstoppable.
