Erin , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
Building a full-time photography, videography and drone business hasn’t been easy and definitely didn’t blossom overnight. Starting my photography business, Erin and Jake Photography, was a dream that I had nurtured for years, and it was in 2015 that I finally took the leap to turn my passion into a full-time career. The journey began with honing my photography skills through countless hours of practice and investing in business knowledge and professional photography equipment. I started by creating photoshoots with my friends and models to build my portfolio and gain experience. This helped me create a strong foundation and a diverse portfolio that showcased my versatility as a photographer. I learned I loved to photograph people, faces, emotions, expression.. across all portrait photography genres.
As my skills and portfolio grew, I focused on branding and marketing my business. I created a professional website to showcase our work, started social media accounts to connect with potential clients, and invested in advertising to expand my reach. Networking within the photography community and collaborating with local businesses also played a crucial role in gaining exposure. Over time, I learned the importance of effective pricing strategies, client relationship management, and delivering exceptional customer service. Slowly but steadily, my photography business began to gain traction, and I transitioned from part-time gigs to a full-time career. Today, I am proud to say that I have a thriving photography business, and I continue to learn and evolve to stay competitive in this dynamic industry.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
Erin and Jake Photography is a husband and wife, two-shooter, photography – videography and drone company located in Los Angeles, California.
Our journey together began in 2009 when Erin moved back to Los Angeles from Northern California. Introduced through a close friend, we instantly bonded over our mutual love for photography, travel, adventure and art. Inseparable ever since, we formed Erin and Jake Photography in 2010 and when our itch for adventure inspired us, we eloped to Las Vegas in 2013.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Absolutely, our creative journey is fueled by a distinct mission. Our primary mission specializing in portrait photography, videography, and aerial art, is leveraging these mediums to capture and transform the most precious moments in our clients’ lives into timeless pieces of art. We believe that every individual, family, event, business, fashion project, music shoot has a unique story to tell, and it’s our passion to craft visual narratives that resonate with authenticity and emotion.
Our mission goes beyond simply taking photographs or shooting videos; it’s about weaving together the threads of emotion, connection, and beauty to create lasting memories.
