Khai Zhen, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
Since I was a kid my parents made me attend piano/ music theory classes, and I do know most of the kids my age don’t enjoy taking it due to peer pressure and extra commitments, However, I do see myself enjoying it a lot despite it being one of the hardest skill for me to learn that takes lots of time and practice. Music works like a magic spell to me as it affects me in any way, it makes me feel like myself. That is when I decided music would be my future and it’s the only thing I wanted to work with for the rest of my life.

Hi! My name is Khai and I go by the name of Khai Zhen, which is my first name and also my artist name. I’m currently based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia but I’ve had my fair share of living experiences in the US, Tennessee to be exact. I’m a music producer, artist, and audio engineer who has been active in the music scene of Asia since 2020. I’m also currently a signed songwriter under Universal Music, which opens doors for me to work with big artists locally & internationally. I mainly write songs and produce them, while I do have my own personal artist projects that I’ve performed on. The one thing I’m proud of is I have found my niche of creating a western-influenced Pop/R&B sound, which is highly demanded and trending in Asia and also a skill that I would love to put it as my brand.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Support your favorite artists and explore more new ones! Keep listening to music on your preferred streaming platforms from new & upcoming artists who deserve more recognition. Platforms like Spotify has curated a bunch of playlists according to the theme/mood/genre you’ll just have to find one that you like and streaming music from there! Keep exploring and show love
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I have fans/audiences/friends who came out to me and said the music I make has inspired them to be better, or some is to move on from a tough phase and my music helped them get through it. I started off making out of my own pleasure but right now I understand the most rewarding part is you get to inspire people and affect someone’s lives. People who showed love and supported throughout mean the world to me and it’s my main motivation to keep doing what I love and never give up on it.
