We recently connected with Lisa Cassenti and have shared our conversation below.
Lisa, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. One deeply underappreciated facet of entrepreneurship is the kind of crazy stuff we have to deal with as business owners. Sometimes it’s crazy positive sometimes it’s crazy negative, but crazy experiences unite entrepreneurs regardless of industry. Can you share a crazy story with our readers?
I was diagnosed with breast cancer on Nov. 5, 2018. My daughter, Lianna, was just 9 months at the time. As a single mother, my mind was filled with the most terrifying of thoughts ranging from “how long would I have to see my daughter grow up?” to “how will I navigate cancer, being a new and single mom, and financially caring for the both of us?”,
Fast forward to Feb., 2019. I walked into a yoga studio and my life and the lives of my family members changed forever. At the end of class, a compassionate yoga instructor approached me. She asked me how open I was to learning about an alternative that may impact my health journey in a positive way. I am grateful every day that in that moment, I was open. She shared two remarkable tools with me that not only helped me in my own health journey, but gave me my father back (as he was on a difficult health journey, as well).
From my conviction in these health tools, as well as my belief in the leadership and the ethics of the company, my pathway towards entrepreneurship began. I chose to partner with the company and this empowered me to work while caring for my daughter and myself as I restored myself back to health. As a result, I have been able to have a vast ripple effect around the world, helping people and animals, many of whom I have never physically met.
Lisa, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
As my business continues to grow, I teach on a part-time basis. I am a Special Educator of young children with Autism.
I provide products that empower my clients (and their children and animals) to protect, maintain and restore their health. Learning about these tools while one is healthy is far easier than learning about these tools while one is navigating health challenges.
What sets me apart is that the conviction in these products is now integrated into my heart. I got one of my most favorite people in this universe back, my dad, because of these tools. I believe that I am here, in abundant health, as a result of these tools. I share my story, my dad’s story, and many remarkable stories so that others do not suffer. I believe that one of the most loving acts that a parent or grandparent can do for their children/grandchildren is to introduce them to these health tools as soon as possible, May my daughter and her generation and future generations live their lives in boundless, vibrant health by using these “replenishment tools”.
My clients’ feedback ranges from “more energy”, “deeper sleep”, “feeling years younger”, “friends/family are asking me what I’m doing”, “ocean water doesn’t make me itchy anymore” to “living a different life/ doing things I never thought I could do again”. and “everyone on the planet should know about this!”.
I am most proud of my persistence in sharing these tools with as many people I can, regardless of the skeptics of the products and/or network marketing in general. Some family members, close friends, and prior colleagues still don’t “hear” me, think I’m crazy, and/or believe that network marketing is not noble and not a way to earn a living . As difficult as it is, especially if those I care about are in poor health, I have accepted that it’s not up to me to convince anyone. People who are “open” will hear me. I give of my time to those who are willing to listen.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I have lived with anxiety since childhood. Anxiety leads your mind to “snowball” and think of all outcomes (with a big emphasis on the most negative outcomes). I am ashamed to admit this; however, prior to cancer, my mind was like a PET scan, searching for anything negative.
Shortly after being diagnosed with cancer, two events caused me to pivot my way of thinking. The first event included me and my daughter getting photographed on one of the last times I breastfed her and before I began treatment. The intuitive photographer, Jessica Sullivan, asked me to look into the future in my mind’s eye. I pictured me and my daughter in the future, both in abundant health, and looking at the photographs from the beginning of my health journey. This was the spark that led me to the understanding that while I could not change my diagnosis or control the outcomes, one thing that I could change was my mindset.
The second event that helped me in this transformation was reading excerpts from Dr. Bernie Siegel’s “Love, Medicine and Miracles”. I became the “exceptional patient”.
I began to change my way of thinking by asking myself in each situation, “What is the best possible outcome?”. For example, prior to going into surgery for my bilateral mastectomy, I pictured in my mind the best possible outcome. This “best possible outcome” included my surgeons finding healthy lymph nodes, as well as experiencing a swift healing process and minimal discomfort. I continue to practice this “best possible outcome” daily.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
To be a network marketer, you have to believe in network marketing and in entrepreneurship. You also have to develop a “thick skin” and learn not to take anything personally. I am now becoming a “reformed people pleaser” (and I am still in the process of reforming myself). I am learning to accept that it is far more important for me to share my products with others than to concern myself with what people think of me and network marketing. I am putting myself in the “uncomfortable” so that others don’t suffer.
Something that has helped me greatly is to tell people right away that I am sharing products from a network marketing company. I educate people about network marketing to dispel the misconceptions. I also share with them that some of the most incredible products made in the world are distributed via network marketing. These are products that require education and a deeper understanding. These are products that are marketed via stories, the most powerful gifts we can share with others.
