Alright, Zaynah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Any advice for creating a more inclusive workplace?
I’m all about making workplaces inclusive, and my journey has taught me why it’s so important. Whether I’m producing music in a or styling hair, I always aim to create a comfortable and creative atmosphere where everyone feels safe to express themselves. With 13 years in hair and 8 in music production, I’ve gained a lot of experience. Many of my female colleagues have shared how they appreciate working with me, especially in the studio or creative setting, where they may have had bad experiences before. In my hairstyling career, I’ve spent three years in a multicultural salon, making it a welcoming place for people with different hair types. I’ve also started “The Madame Music Collective,” a project that supports women in the music industry and emphasizes commitment to inclusivity.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I love creating. From a young age I began painting and dabbling in music and I’m so grateful I can now make a career in the arts. Whether hairstyling, creating music or performing I love to bring my own flare and creative touches to my work. Always inspired by colors and sounds Im always aspiring to learn more and connect with others thru the art.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Word of mouth! Don’t be a gatekeeper! lol the more you share creatives you know and love, the more we succeed :)
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I recently relocated from New Jersey to La. Definitely was always something I dreamed of and in 2021 I decided to take the leap! So happy I did!
