We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tikeya James. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tikeya below.
Tikeya, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
Cheerleading has been an integral part of my life since I was six years old. Over the years, it became more than just a hobby; it was a source of joy, an outlet for my emotions, and a platform that taught me invaluable life lessons. I aspired to pass on these lessons to others through coaching.
I spent seven years coaching with another organization, but I knew I wanted to do more. I wanted to implement changes and reach out to more athletes but was limited by the organization’s structure. This led me to create Royal Flush Athletics.
The essence of our organization is to foster a positive and nurturing environment for personal growth. We strive to make everyone feel welcomed and part of a family. We believe we’re building exceptional human beings and not just cheerleaders.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am Tikeya James, the founder, owner, and CEO of Royal Flush Athletics, an All-Star Cheer, Dance, and Tumble program catering to children ages 3-18. Our primary objective is to create a positive environment where our athletes and families feel welcomed and valued. We take pride in fostering a sense of belonging for everyone who enters our doors.
With over two decades of cheerleading experience, I have donned several hats ranging from athlete to coach, judge, uniform stylist, and gym owner, among others. Cheerleading has always been a defining aspect of my life, and I strive to be a positive influence on others through this sport.
At RFA, we offer an array of programs ranging from competitive cheer and dance teams to recreational and drop-in classes. Our inclusive approach ensures that there’s something for everyone, regardless of their skill level.
Unlike many other programs, we don’t believe in belittling our athletes. Instead, we prioritize uplifting, inspiring, and motivating them at every turn. It’s a source of immense pride that we have been able to cultivate an encouraging and supportive atmosphere that continues to flourish and expand.
We extend an open invitation to everyone to join our community at RFA.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Experience and passion are the two crucial elements that have led me to where I am today in the cheerleading industry. As I gained more experience and exposure to different facets of the industry, I met prominent leaders, and my reputation built itself. I never had to go out of my way to prove my qualifications.
Passion was the driving force that led me to explore different avenues within cheerleading. Coaching was a great experience, but I wanted to do more. Working as a Team Stylist for GlitterStarz allowed me to connect with cheerleading programs nationwide, enabling me to observe various operational methods. This experience led me to establish RFA. I also delved into the event side of things by hosting Coaches Rooms at various competitions through GlitterStarz, which opened doors to meet several industry professionals.
In summary, my journey is a testament to the power of experience and passion in shaping one’s career path.

How do you keep your team’s morale high?
The team’s success is a direct reflection of its leader. As an entrepreneur, it’s imperative to consider the operational dynamics of your team. What sort of environment do you want to cultivate? It all begins with you!
A leader must set an example for their team. I follow the same rules and regulations that I expect from my coaches. Cleaning duties are rotated amongst all of us, and we all contributed to building the gym. We take pride in RFA as it belongs to all of us. I don’t consider myself superior to my team. We are a cohesive unit, a family.
Establishing this culture from the start has fostered an environment of high morale that is easy to maintain.
