We recently connected with Keenan Burton and have shared our conversation below.
Keenan, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Everything after high school up to now has been filled with countless risks. Making the move from Florida to Minnesota was the very first one that started it all. Risk losing communication with friends and family, and I did for a period of time. Risking things financially when I had to pay my way through college or working long hours just to make payments on rent and other bills. Risk attaching myself to people or things that aren’t fully knowledgable of and hoping it was the right choice. I’m just some guy hundreds of miles away from home trying to make something of myself. And so far so good. We’re on the right track.

Keenan, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am the creative director for Lamb Chops, a clothing brand headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I started as a model for the brand two years before walking into the current role I’m in now. I was modeling around the twin cities area for a bunch different brands for their products and a friend texted me about modeling Lamb Chops the next day. Immediately after put the clothes on, I was blown at how well made they were. It was as if I just bought them at nordstrom. That’s how good the quality was on them. I ended up modeling a few more times in the future and decided I wanted to be a part of the brand and became the social media manager first (I still am today) and then quickly expanded to handling designs, aesthetics, photo shoots, and overall visual direction of the brand which is creative directing. I’m most proud of the amount of growth we’ve in the last two years since becoming a part of the brand. We also have some big things coming up that I can’t share yet but it’s a big goal we set two years ago. I think what sets me apart from others is my age. I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure i’m the youngest one around minneapolis who is doing this and is constantly growing. Also I’m pretty driven and always try to stay inspired so we can stay on the forefront of trends.

How did you build your audience on social media?
So we actually started over, not entirely but there wasn’t of a social media for us to begin with so the redo was pretty seamless. We archived all old posts and videos. We got all new content and started posting every other day until we saw people starting to pay attention. Also paying attention to social trends because if you want to stay current and grow you HAVE TO play the game in the beginning. Lots of learning and struggling but the reward is a great feeling to have when you keep pushing.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The feeling of seeing the finished product after countless hours of designing, sizing, sampling, revising, and repeat (sometimes)
