We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ali Gilbert a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Ali thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I think others may view diving into the men’s health field as a female as a massive risk. I saw it as a huge unaddressed opportunity. I think men’s health is so misunderstood, overly stigmatized, and full of judgement. I wanted to change that by normalizing the conversation around sensitive subjects and things men typically do not talk about openly such as sexual performance issues, testosterone replacement therapy, mental health, physical health and body dysmorphia, and anything relating to these.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
As a fitness professional of 20 years, I love what I do. I started coaching people in person when I was still in college working towards my degree in exercise science. I started an online coaching business in 2016, and did both in-person and online until 2020, and now I am fully online. My coaching business is called Silverback Coaching, and I have 3 coaches as team members, we specialize in men’s health offering fitness, nutrition, and hormone optimization through Marek Health.
We collectively have over 60 years coaching experience, and we deliver results in our product. We like to get men to be the best versions of themselves, facilitate the discussion around hormones, and provide an ear to listen.
I ended up in men’s health through specializing in golf fitness early on, which brought me a predominately male clientele. I soon realized these guys didn’t go to the doctor, took random testosterone boosters, and were in a perpetual cycle of trying to get leaner but not liking how they looked.
I am most proud of the men’s health event I created last year called the Silverback Summit. We went from 35 attendees last year to 135 this year selling out with 7 weeks left to go. I created a fun, transparent, safe space with a tight knit community of men who can be themselves and learn the truth surrounding hormones, cardiovascular health, fitness and nutrition

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I think spending thousands of dollars at conferences, with physicians and learning as much as I could about men’s health is what positioned me well to take on difficult conversations. I tend to be a very direct communicator on social media, which resonates with many. Continuously providing a solid product with proven results over and over, showing up as my authentic self when I speak at events and on podcasts allows my audience to get to know me in different ways.

Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Communication and leadership skills
