We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dane Drebin . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dane below.
Hi Dane, thanks for joining us today. Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
Well a little bit of both to be honest. I still work for Anthony’s restaurants Monday-Wednesday. There just aren’t that many events in those days and I’m not the kind of person that likes to take days off. If there’s money to be had I’m going to try to get it. It also helps me promote BartenderForHire to people visiting the restaurant. I am extremely happy to be my own boss the other 4 days of the week. Running a business is hard but getting told what to do and how to do it is much harder for me mentally.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
BartenderForHire is a mobile bartending company that I started. We provide bartenders and mobile bars for private events. I also brought one of my best friends Antonio Schiaffino in as a business partner and together we have launched DJ For Hire. Now we can provide not only the drink service but also the music as well. We are one of the only businesses around that can provide both services and we even offer discounted prices if you book both services at once.
How’d you meet your business partner?
I met Antonio as a coworker at Anthony’s in Gig Harbor. We bartended together and quickly became close friends. Between the two of us we have almost 30 years in the hospitality industry. We’ve both bartended as well as supervised restaurants and together there’s no problem we can’t solve. If one of us doesn’t have the answer the other one usually does. Antonio is also a Marine and has brought his military discipline into our business. We are proud to have somebody like him aboard this fast growing brand.
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
It definitely started as a side hustle. I would meet rich guests at the restaurant and I quickly became their favorite bartender. From there any time I heard they were throwing parties I always offered to help. Once I started making great money at these parties I asked myself why not make it a career? The rest is history.
