We were lucky to catch up with Scott Hamler recently and have shared our conversation below.
Scott, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
I absolutely love being a business owner. I’ve worked a “regular job” for most of my adult life. I wish I started along the entrepreneurial path earlier. I sometimes think about the possibility of getting a job again, and it would have to be an incredibly ideal situation that looks much like my life does now.

Scott, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
For many years I worked in the broadcast television world on the production/creative side. Working in the commercial production field showed me how marketing works and working along the sales teams showed me how that side operates. I knew I wanted to start my own business for a long time, and it was the perfect time to start my own digital marketing business.
I first started with social media marketing, video editing, and graphics creation. As I navigated my business I realized how many hats you end up wearing working with various businesses and organizations. I would say the thing I do best now is helping with messaging and connecting with audiences.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Reputation is everything to me. 80-90% of my business is personal references. I always aim to do the best job I can possibly do, while being professional. In any industry you are met with people who can be unprofessional, but you have to try and rise above it and take the high road. In the end you’ll see more bridges built than burned ones.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The thing that I had to unlearn is the fear of failure. When I told people I was starting my own business I got the sense from many people that they thought it was a scary, risky move. You can’t let fear rule your life. I had to bet on myself to have a better life than I was currently living, and I’m so glad I took that calculated risk because it’s paid off and then some.
