We were lucky to catch up with Nina Love recently and have shared our conversation below.
Nina, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
If it were my time to go tomorrow, I would be totally and completely satisfied with the life I lived, how deeply I loved, and how many lives I impacted as well as the legacy I created through being a business owner. That is how happy I am as a business owner.
I feel confident saying that most entrepreneurs think about throwing the whole thing away and getting 9-5 a few times a week! Entrepreneur is literally a synonym for a crazy super hero. It is simultaneously the most challenging and most rewarding path a person can choose in this life in my opinion.
It can be extremely overwhelming when you are the one in charge, the one responsible for everything tht happens and doesn’t happen, making all the decisions, the sacrifices, and pouring your literal blood, sweat, and tears into this living, breathing thing you created. But I wouldn’t exchange it for anything in this world!
Nina, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Nina Love and I’m just a girl from Brooklyn with some enormous dreams and visions.
I’m a Hospitality, Wellness, and Lifestye Artist and Expert. I provide solutions to individuals and companies by way of services and products. I create, coach, consult, teach, and curate events/experiences. But most importantly, I love, I empower, and I inspire!
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Perfection is the biggest lesson I’ve had to unlearn in life thus far! The childhood trauma that I struggled with, combined with mental/emotional health and attachment challenges produced an overly ambitious, high achieving, perfectionist. Thank God I’ve been delivered! I am now on a much more balanced path. What does that look like? Intentionally and relentlessly pursuing excellence and high level go(l)d standards, with a heavy allowance of grace, realism, and LOTS of wiggle room for life doing what life does!
Have you ever had to pivot?
In 2022 my life was shaken up in a number of ways. It was the most challenging and lowest point of my life thus far. I am now very clear that it was completely divine and that spirit had something grand in store for me on the other side of it all that required me to make room, literally and figuratively. I transitioned from a romantic partnership, I struggled with adjusting to life post a late ADD diagnosis at 38 years old, I sold my home in Baltimore and I relocated to Detroit. Fast forward, I’ve been in the D for a year and 4 months now and I’m absolutely in love with my life! I’ve expanded my brand, my businesses are thriving, I’ve received funding, I’ve secured my first mobile lounge, and I’ve met and worked with some amazing people. I get to be with my family, which makes me so very happy! I feel extremely blessed and as difficult as that time of my life was, I know it was absolutely necessary to position me where I stand today.
