We were lucky to catch up with Nguyen Tran recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Nguyen thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So, let’s start with trends – what are some of the largest or more impactful trends you are seeing in the industry?
In the ever-evolving fashion industry landscape, one of the most intriguing trends I’ve observed is the rise of digital clothing. It’s a fascinating shift that reflects the growing influence of technology and AI in shaping consumer preferences. What’s particularly interesting is the emergence of the metaverse, where people are increasingly drawn to owning digital clothing pieces that exist solely in the virtual realm – a trend that challenges traditional notions of tangible fashion.
This trend offers a unique opportunity for designers to create timeless designs that transcend physical wear and become coveted digital art pieces. The idea that a digital garment can be owned, appreciated, and recognized in the same way as a physical piece presents an exciting prospect for the creative community. Designers can now explore a new realm of expression where the longevity and recognition of their work go beyond the constraints of traditional fashion cycles.
However, it’s not without its concerns. The fashion industry has long relied on the craftsmanship and tangible quality of physical garments. With the metaverse, the emphasis shifts towards visual appeal and aesthetic attraction rather than the tactile and qualitative aspects of clothing. This poses a challenge in maintaining the distinction between high-quality craftsmanship and more generic designs, as the focus leans heavily towards the digital allure.
In navigating this trend, it’s crucial for the industry to strike a balance between embracing innovation and preserving the essence of traditional craftsmanship. The evolution towards digital fashion opens doors for creativity, recognition, and sustainability in design, but it also prompts a thoughtful reflection on how we perceive and value clothing in an increasingly digital world.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

Can you talk to us about your experience with buying businesses?
Yes, I’ve had the experience of acquiring a business, although it wasn’t an existing business; instead, it was a franchise. We ventured into the realm of education by acquiring a franchise that focused on teaching art and crafts to children aged 5 to 12. The inspiration behind this decision was quite personal – our daughter’s passion for art led us to hire a private art teacher for her. Witnessing her joy, we envisioned creating an art space for other children to explore their creativity.
The franchise opportunity aligned perfectly with our vision, offering a structured and proven model for art education. The acquisition process was relatively straightforward, thanks to the support of a legal team. Commitments were made, and we followed the corporate guidelines diligently to ensure the smooth operation of our venture.
Running the art school became a fulfilling experience, bringing us back to the simple joys of childhood. It was more than a business; it was a creative haven where young minds could flourish. Our journey with the franchise was not just about business; it was about fostering creativity and making a positive impact on the lives of children.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Certainly! Allow me to share a transformative story from my journey that highlights my resilience. When I first immigrated to the United States, my English skills were nearly non-existent. Despite having work experience and a bachelor’s degree, I faced challenges securing a job. This experience left me feeling like a failure, as if those around me were questioning my capabilities.
Rather than succumbing to this setback, I decided to use it as an opportunity for growth. I adopted a mindset of starting from scratch, reverting to a level similar to my skills a decade prior. To improve my English and integrate into American society, I took a job as a cashier in a supermarket. Simultaneously, I enrolled at Houston Community College to enhance my language skills.
This journey was a testament to my resilience. I immersed myself in the culture, honed my language skills, and gained valuable knowledge necessary for my career. Over time, I not only mastered the language but also earned an MBA from the University of Houston, accompanied by two additional master’s degrees in Finance and Investment Management.
This story isn’t about luck; it’s a testament to my unwavering self-esteem, proving that I am worth much more than any doubts or criticisms. It reflects my commitment to bouncing back from challenges, continually learning, and growing into the person I am today.
