We were lucky to catch up with RM47 recently and have shared our conversation below.
RM47, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Being an artist requires embracing risk. It’s a beautiful and fulfilling journey that demands trust in yourself and your talents to pursue your dreams. However, it’s a double edge sword where rejection, instability, and uncertainty can also play a part. It’s those challenges that taught us resilience and learning to navigate through it all. We’ve had to build thick skin along the way to keep pushing forward. Outside of creativity, some of our biggest risk taking comes through investing time (often away from our loved ones), and investing finances as entrepreneurs to sustain our art / business.
When we decided to take a risk and start RM47, it was new territory for us, having primarily worked on solo projects in the past. As time progressed, we saw the puzzle pieces falling into place, allowing us not only to grow as individuals but also to strengthen our partnership as a duo. Our debut album, ‘Stuck With You But I Like It,’ has truly opened many doors for us and we’re so grateful for that. We’re excited for our listeners to hear what’s to come in the upcoming weeks.

RM47, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Raleigh – I’ve always made music since I was a kid. My bedroom was like a small studio filled w/ a bunch of hand me down gear and instruments from my Dad & Uncle. I always wrote songs, and later found out about music production and beat making. After finding out music was an actual profession, I eventually started interning at record labels (Def Jam, Capitol) to learn how the business works.
At the same time I was working as a recording engineer and started an apprenticeship at a mastering studio to gain a better understanding of how music is “supposed to sound” at top tier levels. Fast fwd, my life has snowballed into a career as an artist, producer, engineer, songwriter. I often have clients come to me for ideation and enhancements of all things music / audio related. The day’s we’re not making RM47 songs, i’m usually exploring some other form of mixed media arts.
MAAD – My love for music has been a part of me for as long as I can remember. From an early age, I had a deep desire to perform, and I made it my personal mission to follow that passion. This journey has taken various forms along the way, from taking classes at the Dance Theatre of Harlem to modeling, DJing, featuring on major artists’ releases, and occasionally writing for other musicians. Music has consistently served as the backbone of my pursuits.
I’m somewhat of a perfectionist, and that’s where my discipline stems from. I possess the habit of immersing myself in tasks that align with the vision I have in mind. While perfectionism can sometimes get in the way, I’ve learned the importance of balance and knowing when it’s time to share our art with the world.
I take great pride in my resilience and my ability to inspire others in their pursuits. I possess the kind of determination that keeps me motivated for hours on end, and I firmly believe that this dedication will only drive us further toward our goals.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Being able to see an idea come to fruition and seeing people’s lives become more enriched from our art.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
We feel as time goes on, your mission and purpose changes. Currently we do this for people that have larger than life dreams, that feel like they are the underdogs… For the creatives that don’t fit within boxes. We just want to inspire people to keep pushing. We want people to see that you can take different paths, pivot and also work together to reach collective goals.
