Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Gabbi Swan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Gabbi, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to start by getting your thoughts on what you are seeing as some the biggest trends emerging in your industry.
A big trend I’m seeing a lot as of recently would definitely be Content Days or Styled Shoots. Essentially, a creative will find vendors, scout out models and locations to put together a shoot (or multiple shoots) and sell slots to photographers. These photographers will then be able to come photograph this content put together and use it in their portfolio!
It’s a great way to build your website and eventually book the kind of clients you want!
As a Stylist I’ve hosted Content Days of my own and it’s probably been my favorite thing Ive done thus far for my company. It’s also a great way to get people from your art community together to network, have some fun and make new friends!
Gabbi, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a traveling photographer & stylist currently based out of Denver, Colorado. My main focuses as of lately have been elopements, marketing for small businesses & creating and hosting Content Days for photographers!
I love portraiture, the small details and capturing moments that my clients didn’t even realize were happening. There are so many photographers to chose from, especially now in 2022- and I am so thankful for every single person that has trusted my vision and chosen me!
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Honestly, just getting the clients! It sounds so simple but it really is the most rewarding thing, every single time. Being a creative in any aspect is so incredibly competitive and there are so many options to chose from.
For example:
When I put together a Content Day; I am essentially putting together a couple hours worth of different content to photograph, in hopes of other photographers being interested at the least! But for them to like my ideas, inquire and then like it enough to pay to come photograph it… THAT really makes me feel like i’m doing something right!
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I think that non-creatives sometimes tend to forget that we as photographers are offering a service. And it is not a service that just ends after your session. Thats just the beginning! We spend before hand prepping, scheduling according to light, scouting locations and styling a cohesive set. The actual sessions is all fun and games, but we spend so much time behind our computers with post production (editing, etc.). And we do this all while planning our next shoot(s) for our other clients, but still putting in just as much time, attention and love for you!
