We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Adrian Archie. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Adrian below.
Adrian, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
petNmind was created to enhance the relationship that pet’s have with their humans. The emotional and mental connection that humans have with their pet’s is well documented. In order to benefit most both the pet and the human must be healthy. Nutrition and hygiene are the most important parts of a pet’s life yet much confusion exist surrounding pet nutrition among pet parents. Most pet nutrition is of very low quality as well.
petNmind exist to decipher the confusion and empower pet parents knowledge and access to the best quality nutrition as well as hygiene services. Pet’s do not speak human, ao we translate.
We improve lives by empowering our customers, pet parents. We also empower entrepreneurs through our franchise concept. Small Box describes our concept exactly. The concept is set in a small square footage that is no more than 1,500sq ft. We curate the products, we know pet parents need, with the highest quality standards.
Customers love our concept because it is not intimidating and even if we can not match a solution to their need they still leave us better informed than before they met us.
Our concept also gives entrepreneurs a clear path to business success in the always healthy and fast growing pet industry. The small footprint equals operations simplicity, minimal payroll expenses, and a much smaller investment than the average pet franchise concept.
petNmind allows a larger segment of society to fulfill their dream of business ownership and be successful longterm. We will heal communities by supporting healthy pet’s, their humans, and pet entrepreneurs.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m turn 42 this year and I am originally from Concord NC. Early in life I dreamt of becoming a Veterinarian and owning a pet store. Animals have always been my passion.
I attended University of Richmond on full athletic scholarship for football. I started with intention of going to Vet School after undergrad, but switched my major to Psychology my Sophomore year. I graduated in 2003 and spent three years playing pro football in the CFL for the Montreal Allouttes and briefly in camp with the Atlanta Falcons.
In 2005 I gave up pursuing pro football and began my career selling high-speed instruments for Brain and Spine Surgery. I was in the Medical Device Industry for nearly a decade before losing my passion for that industry and deciding to launch a business based on my early passion for animals.
Pet parents need guidance and that is what we do best. So I combined all of the skills I developed throughout life and I jumped head first into full-time entrepreneurs in 2014 after launching petNmind. My diverse life experience allowed me to stay afloat through the early years. So I never take learning and experiences for granted because you never know when the experience you thought was a waste is what gives you the ability to succeed in the next chapter of your life.
I am most proud of receiving investment as a Cohort 5 portfolio company in Leap Venture Studio. I am proud because the backing of Pet Industry Investors says we are doing something right and the impact we want to make is coming to fruition.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I jumped head first into the Pet Retail Industry without a clue of what I was doing. I made every mistake in the book. Some of which I am still climbing out of now in our 6th year of business.
It was times in the early years where things were extremely uncertain. During those times I leaned on my faith and my experience playing football. From my football days uncertainty never bothered me because I know I did the work. It is the same in business. I am doing the work. I show up no matter what and I make sure I am present mentally. When you do the work good outcomes usually follow if you don’t quit.
The most amazing thing is all of the mistakes I made, but also cataloged, allowed me to create a concept that others can invest in and succeed through my experienced support.
Without making mistakes and refusing to quit I never would have gained the knowledge that others can tap into and win without the same mistakes. The petNmind Franchise concept would not exist if I was not willing to be processed. Making mistakes led me to create a turnkey pet business concept for others to win with me.

Have you ever had to pivot?
I really enjoyed being a Medical Device rep. I am nerd at heart so standing in complicated brain and spine surgeries made every single day interesting. I enjoyed many aspects of the career, the biggest of which was meeting and working along side world class surgeons on a daily basis as a brand manager. I saw myself moving up the ladder and retiring from that company.
So it was heartbreaking when the leaders above me stole my career and forced me out while faslely smearing my name as I left.
That episode through me into a deep depression for years after that day in 2014. I was hurt and disillusioned, but I had much experience wanting to quit in football practice or workouts but I never did. So I did what I was conditioned to do and that is show up everyday and smile. Feeling good isn’t the key to success. Instead learning and execution is the key.
I became an entrepreneur because people had an ill agenda and attempted to ruin my career and me. But now 8 years later I realize that as unfair as that situation was it actually had to happen so that I could do much bigger things than I ever could have working with such unscrupulous leaders.
Get accustomed to embracing change because it is constant and when it happens you will not miss a beat. They wanted to ruin me but it actually promoted me into greater.
