We were lucky to catch up with Nataisha Ramirez recently and have shared our conversation below.
Nataisha , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
After my weight loss journey, I came to the realization that true health extends beyond a mere number on the scale. It’s about nurturing our mind, body, and spirit. Rather than fixating on labels like ‘skinny’ or ‘thin,’ I’ve chosen to focus on being healthy because it means something different for each person. Our genetic makeup may mean that some of us will always fall into the overweight or obese range, but that doesn’t negate our ability to prioritize our well-being. It’s about embracing our unique differences, loving ourselves unconditionally, and making our health a top priority. While there’s no one-size-fits-all approach, we all share the common goal of striving for good health
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Nataisha Ramirez, I am a mother of two boys; one graduated from college and one currently in playing football and studying sports med. My husband and I have been married for 26 years this year. I have traveled the world as a military child and later as a military spouse. I have always had a problem with my weight since I was a young child. My weight has been as high as 408lbs and as low as 180lbs. I fell into the industry as I am a product of my brand. 18 years ago I decided to have gastric by pass surgery because I was sick and tired of never losing the weight and just being miserable. The decision to have weight loss surgery was not my first choice, as I thought about it for over a year before deciding to do it. As I began to lose the weight, my discipline and consistency was through the roof. I was given a second chance at life and did not want to mess it up so I worked hard. Many saw me eating right, exercising regularly and talking to others about the benefits of taking care of yourself. One day someone stated that I should be a personal trainer and after some thought, I decided to go for it. I began doing bootcamps in the park and meeting my clients at local gyms. I had some that wanted to learn how to run so I began training them in that area. Everything that I have trained others in, I have trained myself to do. Running help me get my weight off so I trained for 5ks, 10ks, 1/2 marathons and the big marathon; which I have done two of those. I help women lose body weight and mental weight. As a Wellness Coach, I take the holistic approach because losing weight is not just about the physical weight but the mental weight as well. I have conducted retreats, seminars and spoke at many health fairs. The one thing that sets me apart from other coaches and fitness studios is I use to be where my current clients are currently so I understand the desire to want to but have no motivation or support to start the journey.
In this day and time it is very hard to stay in business as a fitness studio because its more of a wait for them to find you and decide they are ready. Losing weight is hard but what is harder is deciding that change needs to take place. We look in the mirror everyday at ourselves and most times we want to change but change is hard so it is easy to be content than to work for what you really want. I am very proud of the fact that I have been in business for 11 years and been on this journey for 18 years. It is the one thing that no one can take from me because I worked hard to get here. Size Healthy Fitness is a woman’s’ only fitness studio. It is a woman’s only studio so that women from all walks of life can walk through the door and feel safe, loved and motivated.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I was not savvy on the computer and knew nothing about social media. It was not until one day a friend of mine told me to sign up for Facebook. Once I signed up, I was able to connect with friends around the world. Facebook really helped me because at this time my husband had orders to Hawaii so it helped me stay in contact with family and friends. Once I registered my business in Hawaii, I started talking more on social media and showing my workouts and so forth. I later started a business page and shared it with friends, who shared it with their friends. Most knew my journey and where I started from so they were able to witness my transformation and recommend me to others who were trying to lose the weight and needed help. The advice that I give to everyone is use your family and friends to help promote your business and take on some friends as clients.
If you have multiple revenue streams in your business, would you mind opening up about what those streams are and how they fit together?
My business currently has a refrigerator of healthy meals made locally. I teamed up with a local small business who meal preps and delivers to my studio where others can purchase individual meals. I also do reels on Facebook and TikTok as a content creator so I make money when people like or share my reels.
