We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tyler Christman. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tyler below.
Hi Tyler, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
Back around 2011 my dad was diagnosed with lymphoma and quit his job in the corporate world. He then decided to build a man cave in his garage. To do so he took down a small barn in our area and built his man cave. After that, people would call and say my relative has a barn they’d like to be salvaged would you be interested? He would then reclaim the barn and resell the materials but after I graduated college I joined the business around 2014 and handled all the customers as well as the social media and our family business had kind of take off from there!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
The name of our business is Bald Eagle Barn Wood. We reclaim old barns and farmhouses and resell the reclaimed materials. Many old barns these days are in rough shape and either need to be restored or salvaged. When restoration is not an option due to condition, cost or other factors many old buildings are simply bulldozed or burned. We as a small family business come in and salvage all the material we can so these historic buildings can live on in some way instead of just being torn down.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I myself, was born with cerebral palsy. I do everything from a manual wheelchair. I’ve learned to do anything anyone else can do even if I may have to do it a little differently. This means moving, cleaning, denailing and reselling reclaimed lumber all from a wheelchair. I’ve learned that if you give something you believe in all your effort and have a positive attitude there isn’t much you can’t accomplish!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I kind of built up a small following by providing interesting content mixed with post from my personal life to connect and engage with an awesome community we’ve created on Facebook! My advice would be to be honest, personable and consistent.
