We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Christina Chow a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Christina, appreciate you joining us today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
I definitely wish I started creating content earlier. I feel like when Instagram was first becoming a platform where people could share their creativity and turn it into a career, it was a lot easier to find an audience and grow because there weren’t as many people in the industry. Now it is a lot more saturated, so I have found that it is a little harder to make myself stand out and create unique content. On the plus side, I have made so many friends and connections now because I have found so many people with similar interests!

Christina, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Ever since I was able to walk I have enjoyed taking photos and documenting everything I did either through digital/film cameras, old polaroids, journals, etc. When I was in high school, my parents gifted me a DSLR camera, and I started taking photos everywhere I went. When social media became a big thing, I started posting just for fun to provide fun recommendations for travels and eventually for Atlanta food and activities because that is where I spent the most time! Now I focus my content on everything ATL, and love to give recommendations on all the fun things to eat and do in the surrounding areas. I want to share the best experiences with my followers and showcase new and growing local businesses, especially minority-owned businesses!

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I have had so much fun meeting other content creators in Atlanta who have similar interests and love trying new restaurants like me. I think making all these new friends has been my favorite and most rewarding aspect for sure!
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
A lot of people feel like it’s really easy to take a video and post it, but there is a lot of thought and time that goes into it, and also making sure the content reaches my audience. Instagram has made it harder lately to reach new people and I think that affects my content a lot. It can also be discouraging when I put a lot of work into something and the post doesn’t do as well as I had hoped, so continuing to keep posting can be hard sometimes!
