We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Angela Ross a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Angela, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
This idea was given to me in a dream. I was pregnant in real life. However In my dream I was dreaming of a pregnancy test with a baby In the middle of the results window. I immediately shared my dream with my sister. Just like that she caught the vision and said why don’t we turn the test into the shape of a women. Woww!! I said to her this is a dope idea. From that point on we began to do research. We identified the need in the femtech industry. We consulted with experts and potential users. We did a lot of brainstorming and business planning.Networking has been key to meeting so many great people in our field. We felt this product idea would work in this field ,as the pregnancy test Industry had not had a face lift of design in over 30 years. We knew we had to put this pregnancy test out. Our competition were only two major companies. We also did surveys and got a lot more confidence in knowing people would purchase our test v.s other pregnancy test that were out on the market. We are defentily solving the issue that women always wanted to have a better way to say they are pregnant . Also we rid the test of the yuck factor. Women no longer have to keep an unsanitary pregnancy test. Our test also relates to woman because it is much more visually esthetic and looks likes a pregnancy mommy. It’s easier to read. So we feel like we have contributed to fixing more than one problem with the current pregnancy test. We are most excited that woman get to share their test and can’t wait to see that baby appear in the window that lets her know she’s expecting..
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
So our company is in the femtech Industry. The house of dreamz. Our product is the Curve of life Pregnancy Test We got into the femtech industry because there had not been a change in over 30 years. Our company is so unique as we are more Interested In building relationships with moms to be. And following their pregnancy journey with us. We want to help woman who really want to become a mother. We have talked with fertility clinics and found women who are excited to have babies and take their first test to find out if they are expecting. We have a patent which is something we are mostly proud of. We worked hard for our patent. We also offer a consultant service to help potential product developers obtain patents as well.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
We had just got interest from a Huge company for our pregnancy test. It was a period cup company. I remember it was around my birthday. We went out to dinner to celebrate!! However the celebration came to an end shortly. We were told that the company ran out of resources and they would not be able to to license our product at that time. I was so heart broken. However we were determined to get a deal. So we kept shopping our product and we got more interest but next COVID hit. This was when we knew we would have to put our product out ourselves..
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
We had to learn as a new company to celebrate every little milestone even if it wasn’t a big one. We learned to embrace the no’s as redirection. No simply means (NotOver). We don’t take no for an answer we simply find another way. When God has given you an idea or a gift you find the tools and connect with the people he has set aside to help you. This comes through the power of networking.
