We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Elizabeth Welch a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Elizabeth, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
Here is a defining moment in my practice that set the trajectory to where my career path is headed now.
I have always loved being a Chiropractor, taking care of my patients and teaching them wellness habits to make their lives better.
I’ve always been interested in and respected good posture. I’ve always shared exercises with my patients to help them with poor posture. One day while working with one of my female, middle aged patients, I had a ‘light bulb moment’ of how I could help her with her bad posture. You see most people think bad posture is just an aesthetic thing. They don’t recognize that unaddressed poor posture will lead you down a path of pain, medication and higher odds for potential surgery. My light bulb moment was the moment I thought of the PostureFit bar. The PostureFit Bar is now used all over the country in the golf, fitness and health and wellness spaces.
Elizabeth, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into my industry, the Chiropractic space that is, by working at a chiropractic office as a temporary job. I was helping out doing mostly clerical duties. It was my first exposure to the field of Chiropractic. What I saw and heard and how the patients responded to care excited me! I loved that they were allowing their bodies to heal naturally and without medication. It was shortly after that job that I started my schooling to be a chiropractor.
I absolutely love working with our patients to remove stress points in their spine and relieve their symptoms to improve their health. I love teaching about healthy habits and the power of exercise on their body.
I am really proud of my PostureFit invention. It’s different than other fitness tools on the market. It helps the user really build their foundation, and open up the motion in the body that a compressed or forward head posture can ruin. We all want to be highly functional into old age but ignoring bad posture leads to a life of pain, medication and surgery.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Three years ago I was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. I have never smoked and I have lived a healthy lifestyle both nutritionally and physically. I believe my lifestyle habits carried me through along with a lot of prayer. Today I am cancer free. It makes me that much more committed to sharing my message of living healthy with others and to give your body a chance to heal and thrive
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Perseverance, grit and passion for serving others. It’s a winning recipe
