We were lucky to catch up with Jason Johnson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jason, thanks for joining us today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
I don’t think I could get the same passion, joy and fulfillment out of a “regular job” the way I do acting. I am the most happy and the most fulfilled that I have ever been in my entire life while working as a full time actor. I believe that the God-given talents and desires that I have are for a reason. Although, I believe that my purpose extends beyond becoming a successful actor; it includes using my platform to spread positivity, encouragement and faith.
Jason, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Before I became an actor, I competed as a Professional Motocross Racer from 2010 to 2019. After retiring from racing, I knew I needed to move into a job or industry that would challenge me and be rewarding. I felt like I was being led to take acting classes so I signed up for an introduction class at a local acting studio. I was hooked. I knew this is the career that I wanted to pursue next. I received some very encouraging words from the acting coach/teacher about my natural talent and that gave me some of the confidence needed to dive in completely. I spent the next three years doing everything I could to build my career in this industry. I feel blessed with what I have been able to accomplish and look forward to seeing where God takes my career from here.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I absolutely admire actors like Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Mark Wahlberg, and many others who make it a point to use their platforms to speak about their faith. I believe the world needs more people like them. There is a lot of scary, crazy things happening in the world today so when I gain some notariety and success in my career, I want to be one of the people standing in faith and spreading faith, love, positivity and encouragement.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
The world of acting can be pretty brutal on ones self esteem. It really can be a business of rejection. It is difficult when you put all your time, money and effort into an audition only for the production to not choose you. I’ve ready books from very famous actors that claimed you may get one out of every one hundred auditions that you do. That’s a lot of rejection! It can add up and start to make you question your talent, skills, work ethic, looks, etc. I learned very early on that my self worth is in how God sees me and not whether or not I get cast from an audition. I learned to do everything I can in my power to make my auditions great and then forget about them as soon as they are submitted. That way if I don’t get cast then it wont effect me and if I do get cast then its a very pleasant surprise.
