We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Shantrell Simmons. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Shantrell below.
Shantrell, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Shantrell Simmons. I currently reside in Broward County, Florida. I grew up in Miami-Dade, Florida where I attended school and graduated from Miami Carol City Senior High. Upon graduation, I immediately went into the work force holding several jobs in various positions. About ten years later, I enrolled in Broward Community College where I earned my Associates Degree in Criminal Justice. I then transferred to Florida Atlantic University, where I completed my Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice. With the passion to make a difference in my community, I continued on and earned my Masters Degree in Criminal Justice from South University out of Valdosta Georgia. I was fully supported by now husband, Willie Simmons, my three daughters and a host of family and friends. I have been blessed to be a grandmother of two, a girl and a boy. I currently work for the Broward Sheriff Office as an ID Technician Supervisor as well an entrepreneur where I am the owner of Blue Ink Signatures LLC, a notary public business.
I got into the notary business while attending Broward College in 2004. I would notarize documents for students while on campus. Although it did not make me a whole amount of money, I would renew my commission every 4 years as required to remain in compliance.
On December 16, 2016, my husband and I purchased our first family home. We finally had a place to call home for our family. We enjoyed our first Christmas in our own home. In April of 2017, my husband went for an eye exam and our lives seemed as if it took a spiral turn into a disaster. During the examination, it was discovered that my husband was blind possibly due to a silent stroke. He was rushed to the hospital where I met him. From that point, his health suddenly declined and forced him to retire. Appointment after appointment after appointment consulting with several specialists, my husband final outcome was to have a brain surgery to possible remove the tumor. June of 2017 was the first surgery. It was determined that the mass on his brain crushed his optic nerve and an additional surgery will be required. October 2017 was the second surgery. During this surgery, he had a stroke. With his early retirement and host of medical issues, I was forced to take the position of maintaining the home on a single income and become attentive to his medical needs. I needed to find ways to make additional money until his retirement, social security and disability benefits were approved. Faced with a mortgage based off of a two income now that has become a one income household, I had to dust off my notary stamp out and started advertising and doing odds and ins jobs to make ends meet.

Prioritizing Relationships Over Quick Gains in the Notary Public and Loan Signing Industry:
In the fast-paced world of notary public and loan signing, it can be tempting to focus solely on quick transactions and immediate financial gains. However, as a seasoned professional in this industry, I’ve come to understand that the true value lies in building lasting relationships with clients and partners. Here’s why I believe relationships should take precedence:
1. Trust and Credibility: Trust is the cornerstone of any successful business relationship. By consistently providing reliable, accurate, and ethical notary and loan signing services, I establish trust with my clients. This trust isn’t built overnight but over time through honest, transparent, and reliable interactions. When clients know they can count on you, it fosters a strong sense of credibility that extends far beyond individual transactions.
2. Repeat Business: In an industry like ours, where people frequently require notary services for various life events, from buying a home to drafting wills, repeat business is a significant aspect. Building relationships ensures that clients return to you for their future needs. It’s not just about that one-time fee; it’s about being their trusted go-to professional in the long term.
3. Word-of-Mouth Referrals: Happy clients become your best advocates. When you prioritize building relationships, satisfied clients are more likely to refer your services to their friends, family, and colleagues. These word-of-mouth referrals can bring in a steady stream of new business, and they’re often more valuable than any marketing campaign.
4. Adaptability and Flexibility: A strong client relationship allows for open communication. Clients who know and trust you are more likely to share their unique needs and concerns. This insight enables you to adapt your services to suit their requirements, making you a versatile and valuable partner.
5. Emotional Connection: Transactions, especially those involving significant life events, often come with emotional stress. By building relationships and showing empathy, you can make the process smoother for your clients. An emotional connection can be the key to turning a one-time client into a long-term partner.
6. Industry Partnerships: Building relationships isn’t limited to clients alone. Cultivating strong connections with industry partners, such as real estate agents, mortgage brokers, and attorneys, can open doors to collaborative opportunities. These partnerships can lead to a steady flow of business referrals and a stronger industry presence.
In the notary public and loan signing industry, we need to remember that, while financial success is essential, the true wealth lies in the bonds we forge with our clients and partners. Long-lasting relationships are the foundation of a thriving and sustainable business. They endure far longer than the money earned from a single transaction, and they can be the catalyst for continued success and growth in this ever-evolving industry.
As I continue to serve my clients, I’m reminded daily that in this industry, it’s not just about the ink on paper; it’s about the trust, respect, and partnerships we build along the way. These relationships are the true currency of our profession, and they are worth more than any quick dollar.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
