We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jeffrey Irokwe. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jeffrey below.
Alright, Jeffrey thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. One of the toughest parts of scaling a business is maintaining quality as you grow. How have you managed to maintain quality? Any stories or advice?
Our Motto is “Quality over Quantity” because at Collection of Visuals we believe that the amount of energy, planning and communicating that is put into any particular thing will show in the final outcome.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My journey really starts back with my upbringing. The way my parents pushed me and my older brother was really the foundation that we still use to this day to continue to grow collectively in what we all are great at doing. I really got into the industry when I was 15. My mentor, Isacc Birdlong, encouraged me to try out modeling in a little fashion show at Valley View Mall, if you guys were around Dallas in the early 2010’s then you know what I’m talking about. After that show, I realized I could actually do something in the entertainment industry. Over the years, I slowly worked smaller modeling gigs until I booked a major role in a Lays campaign that was blasted all over time square, so you could imagine how I felt seeing that for the first time.
After that, I started getting booked for major brands like YSL, GAP, Burberry, etc. and that took me all over the country, which I enjoyed especially being a 20 year old. After a few years of learning and working in the industry I finally started working behind the scenes, directing commercials, short films, etc. with a 3rd party company in Los Angeles for about a year.
I finally moved back home to Dallas in 2016 to start my own production company, Collection of Visuals or “COV” for short, with my older brother, Jesse Irokwe, who’s an artist, audio engineer and composer. Over the years, we built and grew a company that caters to indie creatives and professionals.
The biggest reason for starting “COV” is because we realized a main problem in trying to get a creative project done and out the public is that there are a million hurdles to jump and having to rely on so many 3rd parties to help push the project along. We wanted to create a space for big and small creators, to come to one spot and get whatever creative outlet off the ground. We don’t only produce content, we also help our clients with marketing, publishing, back-end & front-end problems that may arise.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
One of the biggest changes for us has been how our business structure and our approach to to this industry has changed since the pandemic started. Back in 2019 when the pandemic started our approach and strategy was almost completely different than it is now. Having to maneuver through that was new for all of us but we had to sit down and change our approach because the entertainment industry definitely took a big hit. We had to fin out what was going to work best for US! and not what everybody else was doing in that initial shock period. It helped us really concentrate on what needed to be worked on and how we would innovate our business to work with others.
How’d you meet your business partner?
My business partners have been around me all my life. We have the same goals and ambitions. This day and age you cant just attach anybody to your business because people are quick to use you for your resources. You get what you give. Plain and simple.
