We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful DeZhané Jackson . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with DeZhané below.
DeZhané, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you have any advice regarding quality control and maintaining quality as your brand grows?
I believe that as a company grows, the quality of the overall product(s) should increase. When I first started designing, I was an amateur. The things I created then weren’t up to par in regards to quality. I had to continuously study and practice to get where I am now. As I put effort into my work, the quality of my work began to get better. Producing quality work not only gives your clients/customers their moneys worth, but it will also have them continuously supporting and referring you. Before I release any garments or accessories to the clients, I inspect it to check for any imperfections. You should not have years of experience and your quality remains inadequate. If you have produced quality work, maintain it and if you do not produce quality work, then work to increase it.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am a Fashion Designer based in Dallas, Tx. I always had a mind to create and found myself painting, drawing and eventually taking clothes apart, to put back together. At a young age, I knew that fashion was something that I was destined and called to do. Being a designer takes a lot of discipline, creativity and integrity. You have to be able to create one of a kind pieces while also managing time to get orders out on time. I believe my ability to create unique and “different” clothing for both men and women, sets me apart from others. I am most proud of the work I produce. When I finish a garment, I sit back and admire it because often times it’s unbelievable that my own hands produced it. I don’t use manufacturers or have workers who produce my designs, I create everything from start to finish. I always want my clients/followers to know that each garment is constructed with precision.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative, is the finished product and reaction of my clients. Seeing a simple sketch come to life and being worn, is something that will always give me great joy. It’s even more rewarding when a certain project seemed unobtainable or unrealistic and you accomplish it after all the tears and long nights.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Honestly, when it came to funding my business I invested thousands of my own money to get started. I was also fortunate that my parents and grandparents purchased some equipment to help me excel. Funding businesses looks different for everyone but for me, since this was something I was passionate about, used whatever money I had to buy fabric, dress forms, etc to create. It’s all about investing in yourself, and I believe that most business owners will tell you that they’ve had to invest their own personal money, for the betterment of their business.
