Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rachelle Owens. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Rachelle, appreciate you joining us today. One of the most important things small businesses can do, in our view, is to serve underserved communities that are ignored by giant corporations who often are just creating mass-market, one-size-fits-all solutions. Talk to us about how you serve an underserved community.
The year is 2022. The customer is everyone. But wait, with our current political climate, apparently “everyone” is the couples who look like me, or believe the same things I do.
This should NEVER be the case.
This is where I come in. I will serve you, and tell your love story, because I believe that every couple deserves to have their beautiful day documented :)

Rachelle, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have been photographing weddings full time since 2014. During the past 8 years, I have realized that this industry can be a bit exclusive. Weddings are for people who want to get married. Period. My goal is to capture your memories in the way that best fits your personality. I vibe with the silly, the awkward, the hopeless romantic, and the just plain in love. I will serve you at every given opportunity. And my goal is that when you receive those photos, your wedding day comes flooding back and you fall in love with your spouse and your love story all over again!!
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part of being an artist is pulling that emotion out of each client and turning into a long term “core” memory. I LOVE seeing those photos being posted on anniversaries and special occasions, or “just because” and having those memories and emotions FLOOD IN because of a piece of art I’ve created. The joy is indescribable.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
So not everyone knows, but I actually took a year off from photography. It had gotten overwhelming, and the appearance of how a photography business “should” run was getting to me. During that year, I took on a few projects here and there that helped me remember why I started doing this in the first place. Some styled shoots, some portraits for friends, a few select weddings, etc. Being “picky” reminded me that I LOVE what I do, I just need to make sure I do it for the right reasons and with the right people. So really, the lesson that I “unlearned” is that. my business will not and cannot look like everyone else’s. I will do things my way, and with the people and clients that I care about,
